I found the OEM 'Silver Sparkle' aerosols pretty poor in their spray quality. I think I could have spit it out better by mouth. And very expensive at around £13 each delivered. Might be enough for one, maybe two wheel rims I guess. I'd buy elsewhere if they could genuinely match this stuff, but the metallic particles must be identical to give the brilliance.

I agree about Silver Sparkle, used with poor results.
Trophy Blue is what I need, side skirts to be exact.
Think I will use the paint shop, thanks

I'd use a paint shop. I can't imagine good results with aerosols. Maybe wrong.:)

They are not that bad, did these with sparkle silver from Rimmers. Had to refurb them in the greenhouse though, only place warm enough with no dust kicked up.
2 coats primer, 2 coats sparkle silver, 4 coats of Land rover wheel laquer
Took 4 cans of sparkle silver, was pricey but nothing else I saw could match the sparkle silver finish.

I guess you got some good ones. The ones I bought (though not from Rimmer) were very sputtery and created large blobby areas. These slowly blended in, but not very impressive for a very expensive aerosol. Silver Sparkle seems to be unique amongst the 'silvers' and will take some matching. I guess a good pro paint outfit might be able to get similar mica or whatever it is, but you can forget the likes of Halfords.

I totally agree TC, they are far from the best I have used, I had to hold the can upright and far enough away for the spits not to reach the wheel. I also had to wait for the can to get warm so there was decent pressure, the guarrantee of silver sparkle finish is the only reason I used it, and at almost £100 for the aerosols I had to make a good job of it, and had my fingers crossed the whole time.

£100 would go a fair way towards the cost of stripping and powder coating. I think I paid £40 for a single wheel to be done.
Had the original powder coating bubled up. If so how did you prepare the alloy underneath prior to painting?
