Hi everyone

Just seen this 75 on ebay, claiming to be registered in March 1998, when I was sure production did not start until early 1999, and the launch was in October 1998. A prototype or a typo? It is S reg, when sales did not start until T reg. Also it claims to have 0 miles, surely this can't be right????!!!!

Hello and welcome to forums!

The milleage would appear to be a typo. For that price it would have covered a fair few miles.

There are a few un-registered vehicles or delivery milleage only vehicles still up for grabs if you search. Asking prices for a genuine un-registered vehicle would be near list price. ie £15K upwards depending on model.

As for it's S-reg plate. It may be a pre-production model. Some were available to press and motor journalists for testing etc. I'm not entirely sure when production started. Someone in the know will be along shortly to comfim this or not.

Hi Bolin and welcome

DVLA says

The vehicle details for S580 AOX are:

Date of Liability 21 03 2006
Date of First Registration 15 02 1999
Year of Manufacture 1999
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2497CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BLUE
Vehicle Type Approval

Looks like the sellers have got a few things wrong, or DVLA has :)
They almost always advertise without the mileage listed.

I assume it must be a press car then. Feb '99 could be a pre-production prototype, it is four months before the car actually went on sale.....does anyone know why there was such a long wait? I remember reading somewhere that BMW wanted an early launch especially for the British Motor Show.

According to DVLA vehicle enquiry web site was first registered 15.02.1999.

My first 75 was an Atlantic blue 1.8 Club with all the extras (seat heaters, rear blind, heated and headlamp washers etc) and it was an ex-dealer principle car. It was a T plate in early 1999, and I have seen quite a few in that spec. This could well be one of them.

Exactly the same as mine Martin, also including folding rear seat and thru' load hatch. In fact if I am reading the serial no. correctly mine was the 100th car off of the production line.

The reg gives it away as a factory car for press/demonstrations. This one has been knocking around for a while now, I'm guessing it is not in the best of conditions to be honest. I enquired about it a while back but silence was the answer. As much as I want an early car if the seller hasn't got the decency to reply then I tend to cop a deaf 'un to them after that.

Ian Robinson offered to go and eyeball it, don't know if he did or not?

Mike your link won't work (at least not always?), theres been some changes on how its accessed at the DVLA and these seem to have resulted with extenal links showing as expired.

John, follow links from www.direct.gov.uk front page, on the Motoring section, to 'Online Services' then 'Vehicle Detail Enquiries' then 'Check Vehicle'.

That can only be described as an outrageous calumny:cool:

The DVLA link doesn't work, my link would if only they'd get their act together ;)

I agree with GG things don't add up, nice looking and about the right price, if you where interested I'd go and have a look you will get a better idea of the details, as for face value looks fishy from the start I'd wound not touch it but that my view on this, it may still be a genuine car.

one other thing to, if it was press release you would of thought it would of been a connoissuer??
