Hi,

Still quite new to the car, so another question.

We've got the dual zone airco on our 2003 CDTi, most of the time it is powered on and set to a comfortable temperature.
Recently we hear a slight screeching, dragging noise wich stops when the airco is powered off. Anyone experienced the same and how can it be solved ?

Thanks !!

Could be one or two things involved with running the air chiller system. The most common issue is the radiator fan. The earlier 3-speed version typically lasts 50k-60K miles before the slow speed packs in. I assume yours is 3-speed? When that happens, aircon operation is compromised and can lead to further more expensive problems with the compressor.

Does the slow speed fan start immediately the Auto button is pressed? Does the fan run continuously or does it stop and start on a regular basis?

Could be the clutch on the air con pump slipping

'Screeching' is a slipping drive belt. It stops when you switch off the air conditioning because the compressor clutch is just idling rather than being under load.

Inspect the drive belt for wear or cracks. If is uses automatic tensioning devices they may be faulty. The diesel experts will be along soon to help in more detail.
