75 2.0 V6 manual. Using plenty of WD-40 and gently rotating it in both directions with an adjustable spanner I managed to remove the OS front ABS sensor without breaking it. When I shone a torch down the hole in the hub where the sensor fits I could see the hub which rotated if I turned the brake disc but it was smooth. I expected to see a notched ring like there is on the Rover 400. Is it normal for the tip of the ABS sensor to sit close to a smooth hub surface?

I believe there are magnetic pads within the bearing race rather than an external castellation. I'm sure your hub/bearing is the right one and the sensor/wiring is the cause of the problem. The sensor needs to run close to the race to feel the field pulses from the magnets.

It will be the o/s front sensor. I had my n/s done last month and bought a full set from here.

Fitted new ABS sensor today. Turned on ignition, ABS light still on. Started driving car, speedo started working immediately and ABS light went off after about 50 yards. Success.
