Hiya. Can anyone point me in the right direction please as to what i need for HID lights... I believe i have a mark 1 75...

you can pick them up quite cheaply , just a little metal bo to hide and the the bulb replaces the original one , you would need to make a small cut out in the rubber cover for te light , i have fitted some that are megga bright ,cost me £35, a guy the supplys the bulbs andwipers and stuff to the mot centre sells them .. a few members ave seen them and agree they are the brightest they have seen .just one draw back you would need to have the lights adjusted to lowerer the beam so as notto dazzle any one .mine are bang on ,there is some talk of the hids not being legal but it is a 50/50 thing ......

Please do not fit HID bulbs to Reflector headlights as I am sick and tired of being dazzled by them.

They may well light the road better for you but they dazzle other drivers.

Properly designed HID lights have a projector lens to focus the beam standard lights do not so the beam scatters.

Even the companies who sell them say they are not legal and sell them "for off road use only"

From December 2011 they will be an instant MOT failure so why bother.

Just one thing - you will can't fail an MOT for having HID's / Xenon's in a reflector housing, as this isn't breaking construction & use - in fact many cars (early Omega, FN2 Civic, Laguna) came with these lights in reflectors from the factory.

It is likely you'll need powerwash & self-levelling to pass the MOT soon, though.

Not at all.

You CAN fit HiDs to reflectors no problem, you just have to fit the right kit (hey Honda and Renault do it with no problems).

You will need a H7R kit for your 75, and it will be perfect, you don't "have" to get your lights re-aligned but is good practice to do so after fitting them.

The links above are hear-say, there are no guidelines currently to outlaw HiDs, and don't get me started on "illegal engine mapping" !!! Many forums have outed these alleged VOSA guidelines as false anyway, no MOT testers have actually heard of any of this.

The way i interpret that is that you can fit them but you should have levelling sensors and washers = not worth the cost. Just get some really good osram or philips bulbs

There you go Poppy, any of the ones listed on that page should fit. Bear in mind that good bulbs should last a lot longer than cheap ones, and im still dubious about the quality of these aftermarket hid kits from the far east, indeed i read about a Saab Aero that mysteriously went up in flames on the owners drive, the fire investigator eventually pinpointed a faulty ballast form a Hid kit!!!

You are welcome. Atleast if they do make them illegal on the MOT you will have no worries and they really are loads better than standard 'halfords' typre bulbs.....now you just have to fit the ******s! :D

Any of the top three bulbs in the list will be significantly brighter, there are brighter ones but they are nearly £50 a pair, any of the ones around £30 should be good, I had the philips ones and they were great

Am I correct in thinking that Poppy would need a pair of H1s and a pair of H7s to replace both mainbeam and dipped?

May be worth checking http://www.powerbulbs.com/index.asp to see if the prices are better than at autobulbs site.

Have the Osram Nightbreakers myself and would recommend them to replace standard bulbs.

On eBay try http://stores.ebay.co.uk/headlightbulbs?_rdc=1 or http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/performancebulbs&ssPageName=STRK:MEFSX:SELLERID have purchased from both. Second one gave good service when I bought wrong fitting by mistake and only charged me for carriage to send out correct ones.

Was a question for other members more familiar with the 75s Poppy.

Its up to you which lights you want to upgrade, whether that be the main beam, dipped beam or both.

Well thats all you need to change the headlights, just the bulbs, i wouldnt worry about the main beam. They are exactly the same bulbs as on the previos website. Ive ordered from redline before and they were very good.

Not really, as far as i know even fitting hid bulbs into a projector designed for standard filament type bulbs will not give a proper beam pattern. The light source produced by the arc in a hid bulb is significantly different to that of a filament type bulb.

However that said the projectors i have seen fitted with aftermarket hids dont throw light around nearly as much as a standard reflector type with a hid bulb...ala.....saxo and corsa boys. Not criticising you mate, just been dazzled a couple of time in this murky weather by hid kitted cars and its not much fun

If they are done properly then they don't dazzle or are you saying HID's are fundamentally flawed?
Having driven cars with HID's (OEM stuff) and without HID's I know they are brilliant for light.
Also having been on the receiving end of cars (Merc's and BMW's not just Chavvy stuff) that are not OEM fitment, I wish the police took a much stronger stance regarding dazzle.

People are so protective about there aftermarket HID's :D

Yes, done properly they do not dazzle, after all there is no difference between a H7 Hid bulb and a DS2 (for example) OEM HID bulb, its all about the housing, and on most cars (I say most as I can't say for certain on all marques) the non Xenon projector housing is the same as the xenon projector housing (other than self levelling and wash, there is no difference.

Merc's, BMW's, chav mobiles are all the same with their reflector housing (as if a Merc or BM has factory xenons they will be projectors).

So please don't stereotype. Yes if non reflector HIDs are fitted to reflectors then they will dazzle and are very annoying - totally agree, but using the right bulbs in the right housing (and aligned) they don't dazzle.

But this is far off topic, and the end from me (on this thread ;) ).
