I've just had a new engine, cluth and gear box fitted to my 2001 Rover 75 (2 ltr V6) after serious engine problems but I've started experiencing an alarming problem. When pulling up to junctions, roundabouts, traffic lights etc. and depressing the cluth to drop down to 2nd gear or neutral, the rev counter drops to '0' and the engine stalls (lights on dash etc.). Soon as this happens I can restart the engine no problem but in the space of one weekend happened 5 times, leaving me stranded halfway across a busy main road on one occasion. There's no pattern to this problem - occurs with low or half full fuel tank, cold or warm engine The garage that did the work has had it back and says there are no problems but there obviously is something happening that shouldn't. Any help would be much appreciated by this very unmechanically minded driver.

Rob,

This appears to be a legal issue. If you believe that the stalling has occurred as a result of the garage's work and have given them the opportunity to correct it free of charge, you could obtain a second opinion from another garage (preferably MG Rover/X-Part). If they endorse your complaint you could tell the original garage in writing that you propose to get it repaired there and claim the cost from them, using the Small Claims Court if necessary.

Simon.

A quick check of your throttle linkage isnt too slack?
