the best way to do this would be with a brim test, make the calculations of fuel used over the mileage in different driving conditions.

Sorry, don't know about the 1.8 Turbo, but my 2.0 V6 Petrol does, according to my on-board computer is doing 25.2 MPG (Average). But that is mostly around town, in traffic, cold starts mostly and about 5 mile drives to work and back.......

Not sure if that is good or not....?

the onboard computer or IPK can be collaborated with your findings.

if you reset the IPK and drive the car over say a thousand miles of mixed conditions this can be added to the IPK to give a truer reading. a search on here will bring up some posts on this subject.

Over the last year, with a mix of early cold starts, town driving and fast but short dual carriageway trips, I have averaged 27.9mpg

On average I'm getting 30mpg from the 1.8T - about 400 miles a tank. On the other hand I get about 500 miles a tank from the 1.8 n/a. Setting aside the hgf issue on the standard 1.8 IMO it's a good balance of performance/economy.
