Soon having one of shauns units fitted but wondered if any type of sd card
was preferable would like to use a 32 G but should it be a class 4 or 6

Class 4 = Minimum of 4 MB/s write,
Class 6 = Minimum of 6 MB/s write.

Depends what your using it for if it matters - for playing music, the difference would be inconsequential - for GPS, it would help a little as the it would be able to load each new map segment a lot quicker.

Personally I always get Class 6 (or faster) as it's rarely any more expensive (although for 32GB it might be!) and I often end up using it in different devices.

I would tend to agree...

I would use Class 4 / 6 for GPS and anything from 2 to 6 for music...depending on your budget..

You don't notice that much diference when using a Class 2 apart from maybe a few extra seconds to load all the files up, but after that, not that much difference really..

Try ebuyer or aria they are quite good, I get most of my computer bits and pieces from them...

If there isn`t a lot of difference in the price get the fastest though for anything but Video I wouldn`t think it would matter.

I'd stick with 16gb if I were you, 32gb is still quite expensive and you can get a heck a lot of music on 16. BTW remember it's a MicroSD not an SD.

Can anyone using a larger size memory comment on how long it takes to load the music? It takes quite a lot of time when using a memory stick plugged into the front USB port and has to reload every time you want to play from it, even if you are just switching between radio and usb when there's nothing good on the radio. Is it the same for the memory card?

Hmm that's bad news. I don't like to wait for what feels like minutes when I want to switch from radio to sd card. Think I'll have to stick to bluetooth streaming from my phone :(

Does the 2 on this card denote it's class?

Yes.

And this should be plenty quick enough for music ?

Class 2 = 2 MB/s sustained.

Seeing as an MP3 is usually <4 MB I doubt it'll be an issue.

I have a 16 gig micro card with just over half filled with my CD collection. (ripped through Microsoft Media Player set to MP 3).

It takes about 30 to 40 seconds to load them when I change to Card Mode. It the starts at where I left off last time I used it.

If I needed to put more on the card I am prepared to live with the slight extra load time.

just my 2P's worth.

Dunno sorry. I'll check it out later and see what it is. From memory I think it is also a San disc. I got off eBay for about £15

30-40 secs of silence every time you switch to SD card is a pain in the ****, I had a 16GB USB stick connected to my old Kenwood which would take the same 30-40 secs to load when the unit was first turned on. But switching from radio to USB had music there instantly.

can anyone advise on the largest size memory card i can use on one of the early DD units? I want to keep music and videos on so was hoping for 32gb but can not see anywhere what size limitations are. I tried my external 320 HDD, the USB port powers the drive up, but does not read anything :(
