Need a towbar for a tourer, done a bit of searching on here, and ebay, and don't seem to be able to get a definitive right answer.

Are the Saloon and tourer bars different?

Also some of the bars appear to bolt just to the rear, and other have long arms that seem to wrap under the car?

Any idea what this part number is VUB002930 saloon or tourer fitting?

Sorry for so many questions.

According to the "Towsure" catalogue it is the same towbar for saloon and estate.

Personally, I would put up a wanted, there are always members who have towbars and dont want them and they may exchange you for the crash bar.

It may not be always a Rover one, but if come off a 75/zt then it should go back on one.

The Witter one on mine came with instructions and parts for fitting to either model. The tourer just required some extra spacers for the part the towball fastened onto.
It was a long time ago though. The original Witter did not use all the Rover mounting points, so there was a recall.
Moral. watch out for old towbars, the law requires that all the manufacturers mounting points have to be used .

From memory....

The tow bars and fitting kit were the same one, but there were some slight differences taken care of by the one kits contents. Looking at photos could be misleading, because they tend to show photos of bars which might not even be for the same make of car - especially true on ebay from the new tow bar sellers.

The Rover bar fits in place of the alloy crash panel, with additional L shaped reinforcing brackets bolted into the chassis at either side.
