you need EWS 3, the number will relate to it's development stage.
You do realise these can't be used from car to car unless you have the ECU and transponder too

thanks for your reply
the garage replace the three items ecu ews and keys all from xpart
the replacement ews is marked 4.3
the system works the car starts and runs but the engine immobilised light flashes and blocks the other computer readouts
is this as a result ofg the series of the ews
should they have replaced it with an ews 3
thanks

No, EWS 3 was replaced by EWS 4.3 years ago.
EWS 4.3 is fully backwards compatible with EWS 3.

I think the garage should of just changed what was at fault, not all three items, can you describe what your original fault was.

the cause of the problem was the repacement of the immobiliser system as the car was broken into
before the break in there was no problem every thing worked
the garage replaced barrels keys ews as a kit from xpart and after fitting the immobiliser light signal flashed continually even though the car started and ran ok
they removed the new parts and tested with a collection of ecu ews key chip from a second vehicle and the light went out the car started and all was ok
they then refitted the new key set and ews a second time and the light came on
they returned the parts to xpart who provided a new kit of keys ews which they fitted and ;;;;;;;the light came on even though the car started
they tried a third time this time replacing ecu ews key barrels all new from xpart and the light came on
they tried a last time with th e ecu ews and key chip from another car and no light
so;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; where do we go from here?
they are an ex rover garage so i presume they are ok on the use of the t4 so as to configure the various parts

Your x/part dealer could have ordered an new EWS if required, was it tampered with.
The unauthorised entry would be held in the GM6 BCU not the EWS.
You certainly wouldn't of needed a new ECU unless it too was tampered with or stolen.
it's difficult to grasp why they would of changed the lock set unless those were butchered
but you used to be able to order a replacement barrels to original key from BMW via dealerships.
