Whilst looking around the net i came across some info about recalls for the 75

was there only 2 recalls ?

Recalls
13/3/2000. 8,550 cars VIN RJ 001242 to RJ 127623 built between Feb '98 and Oct '99 recalled to correct crankshaft position sender fault which could cause the engine to cut out whilst the vehicle is being driven

11-07-2002: 12,592 75s from VIN RJ001242 to RJ133299 recalled because "vehicles operating in high corrosion areas may experience fracture of the front suspension road springs" which may lead to puncturing of the inner wall of a front tyre. Front springs to be replaced.

12 May 2004: 33523 75's from VIN: RJ133300********* to RJ247257*********
Description: Possible damage and deflation of tyre due to road spring
Defect: There is a possibility that if a front road spring failed at the lower end, it could contact and damage the tyre.
Action: Recall affected vehicles and fit an additional lower road spring retention fixture which will protect the tyre in the event of a spring failure.

The road spring one is well documented (even I know about it) :) but I recall some people on the dark side having the problem and not knowing there had been a recall.

Yup, only those two afaik. Compares well with much of the junk put out by other manufacturers :)

Beats the hell out of the recent Merc recalls, They are much more reliable and better built than our cars though.

Where's my little green man when I need him, can't be bothered to write out the link, again. I'm just going to type "Green man" in future :)

Found one more,

July 2002 Tow Bar recall

Cars built from approximately November to December 2001 may have been fitted with aftermarket (i.e. non-Rover badged) tow bars which do not incorporate sufficient mounting points to the vehicle body. Owners of affected vehicles should have been contacted directly by MG Rover, and asked to take the car to their nearest dealer for examination .MG Rover-branded tow bars are not affected by this recall.

 Sounds more like a good marketing ploy - mind you they are right. Some cowboy outfits attached after market bars in ways that meant they just fell offf.

Less a recall, more a warning about cowboys  Anyway how would MGR know that someone had had an aftermarket tow fitted? Strange indeed. Out of interest where did you find it Andy?

Mike :)

ps tvm for the smilie ;)

Must be a quiet night Mr K.
I have used the caravan club site on many occasions, useful info for camper van people. I was one for many years. Never had caravan though. Towing info is right on the spot as well.

Wasn't there an early recall on coil packs?

Phil,

Not that is recorded anywhere. I know VW had to replace coil packs on their engines but MGR didn't have that problem.

Beaten to it on the two bar recall!

I still have that letter somewhere. Speaking to Brian Luti some time back he commented on some of the tow bars being offered and was quite scathing about them potentially pulling the back end out of shape. The factory spec ones also required a quick look to check the bolts securing them iirc - some of them were shearing.

How would one know if the car went to the recalls or not?

They should be recorded in the rear of your service book
