Hi all, need some lateral thinking about potential problems (apart from theft) of attempting to fit something like one of these in to my radio space

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FLASH-10-7-INCH-ANDROID-2-2-TABLET-PC-WI-FI-CAMERA-/190525363220?pt=UK_iPad_Tablets_eReaders&hash=item2c5c325414#ht_1462wt_932

Anyone else thought about doing this? the tablets are 207mm x 119mm and the space in the dash is about 247mm x 122mm

Problem number one, would be no radio unless I could find one with an Audio input.

I have spent ages on Ebay trying to find one with Bluetooth and GPS and Wifi, and when I do it doesnt mention Audio input.

Does anyone think this would be possible without it looking a bit naff?

every time you get in or out of the car you will have to go through the trouble of powering it on or off as you cant wire it to the ignition why not just go for a double din or an android phone

Fair point on the powering up and down, but there is a big price difference with the double dins.

i have a 7" tablet which i paid around £110 for it on the bay and i would not consider using it in the car as the touch screen is not very good it's ok for watching movies or reading books but thats about it a decent one is £300+ so a double din would work out the easier option

I'm actually holding one in my hands at the moment ;) funky bit of kit for a copy from HK and China.

You can get them for a lot less on ebay or Aliexpress (alibaba.com) for as little as £20 + if you buy 5 or more (I purchased several with Free P&P).

Not sure if it would be practical to fit in or to the dash, you would obviously need access to the Power and Menu button etc which they are located at the side. Also the input panel thats located at the bottom of these units you will need easy access too, especially for the power input either for charging or if using a Car 12V DC Power adjustable converter adapter to directly run it from the cars battery.

You will find all these HK copies Android's will have built in wireless but no audio input only output through the 3.5mm earphone jack. They do come with a RJ45 adapter plug so to use USB connection, these adapters are quite chunky and do stick out from the side of the unit quite considerably.

Otherwise would be a bit of fun in the car, but you might as well just take one out with you as they are portable (I just put mine on the seat), they are great fun for the kids.

Oh! the battery life is poor on these copies by the way, lucky to get an hour with full use.

Here's a video of someone doing a pretty good job of fitting an Apple iPad into the dash of a car:

Those sites are very tempting, spent hours hunting, think I have found a pad :) or two to order. Thanks

The first video is good, but that second video is amazing, love the integration.

I think overall this isnt going to be a goer for me, cost would be simply too much and it cannot be long before Android head units appear.
