Episode 2.. :D..

going on from this ...

I've been on at the supplier since January, with little success. after My GPS board went down again!!.

After they replied with links to IGO software , not a lot of good .. to me !!
it all went quiet.. had no replies for ages ..

But have been sending 1 email every 4 days to various Ebay Selling links for other models from the same seller

And only after I wrote a long EBAY guide (http://reviews.ebay.com/Buying-a-Car-DVD-from-OTTER-SHOP-ERISING-88_W0QQugidZ10000000020601364), and sent it to them .. I got a reply.

( I've actually had quite a few readers , and 5 emails thanking me for the guide ..
so It looks like its cost them a few sales :D ).

So diagnosed as fault GPS board . wow.. surprise !
I am waiting for another board to arrive from China.

Now the last time it failed was right after I changed the car battery.
The DVD was not unplugged when the battery was changed and with all the resident Zt stuff that is permanently connected there was a slight spark when the new battery was put in . ?

And right afterwards no GPS !! everything else is OK.

So it must have been some spike/surge iin system ??

So.. in preparation .. is there anything I can put in the DVD players power lines to protect it ??.
or just disconnect when doing anything electrickey.

.. Also just for info.. whilst waiting for this GPS board .. another package arrived unannounced from the Chinese suppliers UK depot..
it contained 2 tiny 8 pin SMD chips, ?? no info .. just chips. and according to web info. they are EPROMS .?

AT88SC..

They are present on the GPS board, ( I have 2 spare boards from previous failures ).. actually the first 1 was changed and made no difference so that one might be ok ?

So whether this Eprom/CHIP is a known failure point ? PASS.

I have changed one on the known duff GPS board and we will see if makes any difference ?

Going to fit a 32 way Inline socket to the DVD mainboard now to save cutting soldering each time !! .

For you techy/fiddly types ( like me :D)

Eprom .

that Eprom, quite weeny .. next to a biro ;).

There are dry solder joints on that IC, it is a common problem with all lead free electronics, if you re solder all the pins it should start working again. Please use lead free solder, as this would we a lead free product, lead free solder and leaded solder should never be mixed. :D Hope this is of some help to you, care of an Electronics repair tech. :D

My Erising 962D latest episode !!!

Hopefully its the end of the saga!!

After finally tracking some 2mm pitch PCB headers I've finally finshed fiddling with my Double din. ( and not cheap !! )

Just finished it tonight !!

I've fitted this to the mainboard ...

http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/[IMG]http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk74/ceedy44/Erising%20962%20insides/100_7331.jpghttp://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk74/ceedy44/Erising%20962%20insides/100_7331.jpg

Replaced the right angle pins on the Gps boards.

http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/[IMG]http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk74/ceedy44/Erising%20962%20insides/100_7332.jpghttp://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk74/ceedy44/Erising%20962%20insides/100_7332.jpg

So I've got 3 GPS boards now ..

1 from the original returned unit , ( which I always thought was OK)
1 from the 2nd Unit ( with new replaced Eprom )
1 From this latest failure ( with a new Eprom)

The First and Second Board both WORK !!!! Yippeeeeeee!!!!

the latest failure is dead .. ( but will keep the eprom just in case :)

So that "£"£$£$£$%$^&&**!!!!!!!!! thing is working again .

Now I can try primo ?? at last !!! :D...

An tomorrow is exactly to the day .. 1 year since it was purchased originally

spooky!!! :D

Tempting fate again ???

But as I'm bored...... back on this thread just for something to do..

But the DD from Hell is still working ok ..

Cos SWMBo likes to be different , and also for the parents new Merc Dynavin DD from Sean, I've bodged up an SD running either IGO8 , Primo 1.1 + Skins ( due to the ram limitations) and TomTom 7.9 from a modified front end Menu.

I've found that as long as you don't have too many selectable 3D cars or masses of POi's the ram limits don't cause a problem.

Well thats done it, ***'s law says the Erising will pack up on the way home today !! :D

Glad it looks like you finally have this sorted, I bought the exact same unit about a month before you did and touch wood it has always worked perfectly, the only problem I have and the reason for my reply is I have no idea how to get steering wheel controls working. My car is 2001 CDT Conny and had hi line fitted originally, any advice you could give, ideally with pics would be extremely helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Still going strong and I've still got a spare GPS board :D

Not sure i can be much help as my ZT had the Kenwood with infra red controls which are quite easy to connect and set up .

Rov's are a tiny bit bit more tricky but theres loads of info in here about it . best do a lot of searching and reading .;)

As for the Erising justy be carefull when you change/ unplug your battery as the GPS side is very susceptible to Electrical spikes/sparks.

Just to be safe unplug the DD at the back before battery fiddling .

And My Ebay guide has been read over 1200 times now .. possibly a lot of missed sales there! ;) that teach them!! not ignore me :D:D
