I know this is not strictly to do with the DD unitself, but it is related as i have just had fitted an active subwoofer to complement it.And what a difference it has made to the deepness of sound quality :). The only temporary downside is that it has highlighted the lack of bass from OEM door speakers. This won't be for long though as they will shortly be getting upgraded to Focal mid bass drivers/tweeters.

I used a fli-trap in my saloon and due to the excellent damping in the boot it really had to be ramped up.
The tourer wasn't so accommodating and I gave it to my step son for his Nissan ZX.
So now I'm thinking one of these lil under seat jobbies.
I've already upgraded the speakers to infinity kappas but they need help. :}

Regards. Steve.

Hi Steve, yes it needs to be ramped up to overcome the soundproofing but it certainly makes itself heard :) I did consider putting a vent in the parcel shelf, something like the HK one.I know one or two on here have fitted the under seat ones with quite good results.

Ooh tell you what now I think of it. With the power up on the amp, I kept having my high level brake light fall off!!
Kept sticking it up...but it just kept getting shaken off :o

A vent sounds a good idea

Hi Tam

yes it is a speaker in a ported enclosure.

How often do you need all the space in your boot? For those occasions when FULL boot space is required the sub can be removed in seconds. The rest of the time you have much enhanced sound.

I recall someone fitting one of the ' under seat ' ones in the space below the glovebox Tam.If you search back 2-3 months in the ICE section there was a thread about it.I remember him saying he was very pleased with the result.

If you want bootspace, how about the HK sub?

Mounts under the parcel shelf, no loss of usable boot space :)

Got Vibe CBR12 in my boot,,, 1600 watts and,,,,Still loads of space as well.

Must do a nice black cloth cover sometime to cover up the somewhat chav look of the kevlar bass unit and green lit amplifier innards!! ;)

Can a sub be fitted to a regular symphony system or is that not possible. Also if it is possible where does the thick wire go to at the symphony end (the wire you can see on your picture. Total novice so be gentle:)

Yeah,, gonna temporary set mine up (until my new Android unit comes) by connecting the L/R sub supply wires to the speaker outputs from the Symphony rear and then conect to a 'high level' input on the sub, sub power supply is independent of course and the blue switch wire to the amp is also independantly switched via a dash switch (originaly Trac control) in the bezel below the A/C control.

The thick wire you mention is the aerial diversity control wire and is not used with anything other than a Symphony set. Just tape up!!

Looks a potent bit of kit.

What is the idea of the port plugs?

It's to do with the type of bass frequency required. No plugs gives a longer wooly bass whereas plugs in gives a tighter rock type bass. A Very god active sub from Vibe.

i fitted an old bass box and 2000 watt amp to my sean dd ,the sound is superb .was going to build a box that would then sit alog the back of the rear seat in the boot thus still giving me lots of boot space ..you know so when you look in the boot it will cover the back seat backs .. then make up a couple of brackets to hang the amp from under the parcel shelve. but not got round to that yet as im trying to sell the car at the moment ....

And from one extreme to the other...

Custom designed / built enclosure, tuned to 30 Hz, housing a Hifonics BX15D2 700w RMS sub. Solid as a house (made from 18mm MDF, double baffled).

EDIT - Yes I know the second amp looks **** - the large Monobox has serious problems, and the temporary one doesn't line up with some of the wires I put in the box.
