Was talked into going camping with some friends, we went to South Lychett Manor site near Poole in Dorset.

Weather not brilliant, but had a good time, field was muddy, my poor 75 got dirty, what with the field and four of us getting in and out of it. It was loaded to the gunwhales, as our friends only have a fiat 500. My car performed well and managed the wieght no problems, there was also a ZTT in Royal Blue at the same sight, but we did not get the chance to speak, but he had a trailer tent, two kids and bikes on the roof. Enjoyed the weekend, but enjoy my home comforts more :}

Strictly speaking you were in "Purbeck" Borough of... Poole ends Near Upton.. :shrug:

"Isle of Purbeck" which would refer to the area bounded by the blue dotted line, or "Purbeck" which perhaps encompasses a larger area north to Lytchett and west to Bovington and Lulworth"

I am an absolute goldmine of useless information innit... :D

I bow down to your superior knowledge, I was perhaps too pre-occupied with mud and cold to fully explore or understand my surroundings :}

We stayed there for a week in early August, clean site but not much going on which was not a problem for us as we were out and about during the day.

>>>Another mile is the village of Tyneham (http://www.isleofpurbeck.com/tyneham.html), abandoned during the war. <<<

Just read the above on the link I posted!

Grrr.... doncha just love it when you are blatantly lied too!! Tyneham was "commandeered" by the Army during the last war and the people forced to move out..

Now it is no longer needed, but still the MOD refuse to let the people have the village back! .. I believe there is a legal challenge in the offing.. :}

Been to Tyneham and walked along the cliffs, the MOD lets people in now but as you say the rightfull owners are still kept out. -Democracy- mmm

I grew up in Northborne which is, or was, a village just north of Bournemouth. -The Purbecks- were our holiday outings, along with Poole with the harbour and the coast all the way ´round to Christchurch

Really nice area:)

Lots of places around the UK like that Little village on Salisbury plain that we still use to train in but the let the previous residents back in once a year to visit the cemetery.
