Anyone seen this before, or got any experience of it?
I know we can do the reset via the paperclip/two pieces of wire way, but this looks as though it might make things a little easier?
Anyone got any thoughts?
Andy

Hello Mark and welcome

One of what came with the car? And. What is, "one of these"?
Please elaborate. If I'm confused think how confused others may be :)

Hi Mark
thanks for your thoughts - rubbish eh, don't think I shall bother buying one then. I have seen the product you have bought, but I was unsure as to whether it would work with my car. My car is a 2001 model (registered May) and the advert quotes manufacture AFTER 2001. E-mailed the vendor, but he was not too helpful, just quoting 'must be OBD 2' etc. What year is your car?

Your 2001 75 will be OK for that tool. I don't understand the seller's dates because afaik all 75's have this plug!

MY car is a December 2000 and has the plug so yours will. If you are unsure just look under the dash, rh side by door and you'll see the diagnostics plug - count the pins. There should be 16, in two rows of 8.

I have both the devices mentioned here. The one loupus666 has is excellent (I have the same one). Very reliable, easy to use, safe and has a proper OBD2 plug on it.

As for the othe thing - it is just two pieces of wire glued between two squares of plastic. Absolutely no electronics in there whatsoever. No better than shorting with a paperclip - avoid.

Great!
Thanks very much for that all!
I do have the connector, and as far as I was aware, we were using OBD on R40 at/before launch. Unfortunately for me the ravages of time have taken their toll, and the brain finds it hard to recall some of this stuff. Equally confusing, as you said Mike, was that the seller specifies post 2001 cars only. Not that I am (too) tight or anything, but I did not want to waste 30 odd quid on something that did not work! However I think I may now invest in one of the 'proper' tools, as suggested!
Cheers
Andy
