Finally, after much debate etc etc. I purchased a "new" unit from Phil (thanks mate - its a gem), and attempted an install myself this afternoon. Story is that the unit is all fine and dandy, and will deliver exactly what I want...when I've got a grip on the hack job of my cars previous owner in the wiring section. I now need some help on connecting up the missing functionality, and I'm hoping that my fellow members will have all the answers!

My expertise in the wiring area is limited, but I've never been afraid to get stuck in....

And after a bit of huffing, puffing, screwing and fiddling.....voila! or Ta-Dah!

Note Smooth FM on the Radio... ;-)

So, in summary..... and please everyone resist the urge to utter "RTFM"
:D... I have:

Radio - but a little but hissy on low volume. (After trip to Maplins for connector thing) All speakers seem to be working.
Sat Nav - works but having some teething problems with operating it... (nothing that a bit of trial and error won't sort)
iPhone - will charge and recognises it as iPod, but nothing else... no play through etc (would love an iPod permanently connected in the background with playlist on screen - Reebs? Haven't you done this?)
Steering Wheel controls - nothing, absolutely nothing.... not even sure that I have connected up the wires.... - How do I know whether I have the infra-thingys or ordinary ones?

And finally, I'm assuming that hours of youtube instructions exist of functionality on these units.... which one is the best?

Thanks in advance...Ian

What did it cost ?
I'd say about £270 as a guess.

Is it an Xtrons unit? They have a forum very useful.

Mr Ed is the acknowledged expert on getting the remote buttons working!

To check if it has IR or wired remote control, just look in the eyebrow (the sticky out bit of trim, on top of the radios location in the dash) for an IR LED.

Do you still have the red connector on the radio side of the lead ? This needs to be cut off and connected into 2 wires in the cars radio loom.

It really took me 5 minutes to get the steering controlls working . I will find the colours, but they are on MrEds guide as well.

yes lots of playing and messing about but worth it. Then there is the Primo maps.........
