3 Questions to finalise my RadioGuy DD install...

Now I have got my unit wired up and working, just want to ask three more questions:

1. In the ISO connectors and for cars without IR steering controls, are the wires I am after found in the grey iso block? If not which wires do I need as I can only see Blue/Orange and Blue/Purple wires running into that. I was gonna ScotchLok them and channel some wire to the Yellow/Green/Blue connectors.

2. How do I fit the wires into the Y/G/B connectors is there something I need to place on the wire before putting it in or should I be looking at just using one of the wires with crimp connectors on already if so which as I think the labels I should have had on them have either come off or weren't there as the AMP-C and GND labels are the only ones I have?

3. Where is the best place to take the live feeds from for the TV antenna and the DVB-T units and where is best to ground them?

1: on the new loom that comes with the DD unit the RED ISO houses the two wires that need to be connected to the two wires that were previously in the yellow ISO connector! Cut the red ISO off and scotchlock the wires to those that were in the looms origiona Yellow ISO block (thats your steering wheel paddles sorted)

2:The new Y/G/B connector just fit into the back of the DD unit as the Brown wire that sais Earth need to be connected as this is the failsafe that stops the unit being watched whilst the car is in motion; The blue AMP wire is just to power an external AMP if you are fitting one otherwise leave alone

3: I took my leave feed from the cigarette lighter as this is 12v switched live and connected all the earth wires by splicing into the Earth wire off the Grey ISO Block again BLACK in colour

I have no red ISO nor did my original have anything in the yellow or green ISO:

I have found this though and it confirms the wires for the steering controls I'm after are in the grey ISO block:

Just a case of figuring out how I put them in the relevant section in the yellow block. :shrug: As for the earthing suggestion, that sounds like the easiest plan :D

If you used Mr Edds directions I'm sure the adaptor is different on my HU as I can confirm (just been out to car and had a look) I have no RED ISO block or RED adaptor for the YGB blocks to go in :shrug:
EDIT: I don't have that loom mine is different.

Hi Stuart,
The red block has already been cut off. The two wires terminated with crimp connectors (red bullet type). Supplied you with the mating halves plugged into ends on the wires so you can connect them up to your loom. Just need to cut off the plug on your loom and crimp on the supplied connectors.

Thanks Pete so its okay to leave these wires disconnected from the grey block and redirected to the new wires? No need to scotchlok them?

Hi Stuart,
Your steering wires need to be connected as twaters63 stated. There probably are three wires with bullet connectors on. The two for the steering control - green and black, and the other is a power in feed to select the reversing camera input when reverse gear is selected. If you are not fitting a reversing camera you can forget that one (can't remember the colour but think it has a label on as "Back"). If you don't have a crimp tool , you may be able to push the bare ends of the wire through the centre of the bullet terminal and fold over before plugging the terminal into it's mate. This should retain the wires and give a good connection. Hope that helps!

Bah the scotchloks failed...my fault for being lazy, it hadn't cut into the wires far enough so connection kept cutting out, rather than source a smaller one looks like I'm flopping the soldering iron out. Before I do though as I'm going to be doing a more permanent fixture splicing both amplified arial live and the dvt box live together at the same point in the wire will be fine won't it? (Using the Light Green White of the Grey Block as stated in the above symphony image.) Same for the earths, its okay to wrap both expose live wires together prior to wrapping them round the same point in the black wire (again from the grey ISO block)?

Probably! Although someone will no doubdt confirm soon. I 'm not sure what the total current drawn is for the DVT and aerial. I think I took my feed from elsewhere on the loom - but without pulling the whole lot out I cannot be sure!

Did you use the blue (or God forbid the Brown) scotchloks? You would need to use the red ones for the smaller wires....
