the only thought on this and it my be complete drivel as most of my posts are. they very easily bent for this reason if you see any for sale the vendor makes great play of that fact they managed to remove them without destroying them in the process .

Are folk confusing 'cantrail' with 'roof rails' by any chance?

:icon_confused::icon_confused::icon_sad: Sorry for delay had broadband issues:icon_frown:. The reason for asking is had a bad leak in rear of car, but since found out the cause. The cantrails are the trim which runs front to back on roof.
Thanks for interest.
the leak was running down d pillar internally and filling l/h rear cubby box.
SOURCE :-
if you look where the rear tailgate hinge is bolted to body , look up in apperture (with torch). there is a double skin and mine had no plasticoll to seal it. so out came silicone a pair of marigolds and WOOHOO:xmas-smiley-003: the rear of my car is dry and does not condensate up now.
Again sorry for delay, i cant do forums on smart phone makes my eyes ache:icon_sad:

No they're not! Please see the link in post no. 3. It is not a piece of trim.

Thanks for the update. Glad you're sorted.
