Easy.... Directly below the compensator, is a hole (well more of a slot), fitted with a rubber blanking plug. That plug is the one in your photo. In my first attempt to carry out the mod, I investigated removing the compensator via that access point, it would have been do-able, had I been able to disconect the cables - but my figers were too big and I could not manage it. I think someone else did manage it on a four post lift. Anyway, you should be able to refit it from below, without lifting the carpet again - assuming your exhaust is not in the way. |
rubber
Thanks Harry, that explains why I can now hear some road noise which i couldn't hear before the exercise.

hacksaw blade to cut the small section of carpet. I certainly didn't notice but luckily found it when i moved the car afterwards. It took me five minutes to refit it from underneath the car. It is amazing how much road noise enters the car above 35mph with the gasket missing. |
HI Fred.
compensator received you are now ticked off the returns list cheers Arctic. I am now waiting on all 12 compensators to be returned PS ronbax will be poping your in post 1st thing in the morning Monday 28th cheers Arctic ;) |
I didn't have to cut any carpet to do this - all you need is someone with strong arms to fold the carpet back upon itself, an then two stout bars to prop the carpet up whilst you replace the compensator. The carpet is very heavy and keeps trying to fold back into place whilst you are working under it.
