Hi mate. Have you fitted that inline stat yet. I just bought this one and was going to try and figure out best place to put it and if it will cause any problems. eBay item number 370777656691

As in Rob's (trebors great how to) the inline stat housing should be fitted with the copper end facing the engine follow the how to and you can not go wrong Arctic.

I have just fitted a qth144 88ºc thermostat into my my top hose and just thought i would add my initial findings.
Before i was lucky to get more than 60ºc on the dash test and mpg was down even after replacing maf, pcv, full service, cleaning and disconnecting egr etc..
Just done about 20 miles of varying roads, temp went up quickly and sat between 82-89ºc which i am pretty pleased with, under normal driving and 4 miles on the motorway it seems to be 82-85ish and rises but under load it gets up there towards 90 but quickly falls again.
My mpg has definately gone up already and averaged 48.7mpg and i would say thats a min 5-7mpg improvement and the car is quieter and and more responsive obviously as any diesel is alot more efficient up to temp.
Anyway glad i did it and well worth a tenner!!

Does this seem similar to other peoples findings?

Well it certainly warms the heater up quicker that's for sure!

I'd say broadly in line with expectations. Think what another 10C would do. Thanks for the feedback.

Has anyone managed to get a more consistent higher temp with another stat? Eg the specialists components one or is it not worth the extra £40?

None of the top hose options seem to be as stable as a properly functioning OEM .
However we are fitting 10:1 top hose mods compared to the OEM fit.
Simply down to price.

The OEM reacts to block temps quicker due to it's position.
Think it's all been said before about 100 pages ago on this painfully long thread :o

Being Devil's advocate, how long might the current OEM's remain properly functioning? I can't demonstrate it yet, but I suspect something changed when the earlier rubber-clad valve type (with the barrel ended piston) was changed to the current design. I'd love to get a couple of those old capsules you have kicking around.

you can use a 91 degree start in the alloy body which does get it hotter, whether there's any advantage to that I don't really know although the diesel does seem to run quieter and smoother the hotter it gets

What sort of temp range are you getting?
