Right, I had a long chat with Alan at Hampson Composites this afternoon, about undertrays and this is what came out of the conversation.
Hampsons were the original manufacturers to MGR and all the trays from the pre-production trial ones to the last one are identical, the only thing which is different is the addition of the various heat shields and acoustic foam (on the CDTi).
They currently have about 80 in stock (built to suit petrol engine variants) and they do not plan to manufacture any more, but, as they own the tooling they would consider a further production run, but to make the trays economical they'd have to produce 200 - 300 units.
The V8 variant of the tray was a bit of a special, these were built to order from the factory and are made up of two trays, one cut in half and the middle of the other one cut out and the three pieces riveted together to make one, larger panel, so it would be feasible to make a V8 undertray from two standard units.
Alan was also telling me of the fun with the pre-production cars fitting the undertrays, Hampsons produced the initial batch and sent them to the factory for fitting to the pre-production cars, the factory then phoned telling them that the front of the trays didn't fit the bumper, to cut a long story short, the trays were to the correct dimensions, the bumpers had been manufactured incorrectly and the tooling for the bumpers had to be altered!
