I agree, once it's gone, it's gone forever

I am surprised they have lasted this long, many prototypes are scrapped as soon as they have finished with them. I was once at a scrap yard near London with several cars I had never seen before all taped up with ''do not touch'' and when I asked I was told they were prototypes that had to be crushed.

I will be the only one, I think it is an ok looking car, maybe to much of the Vectra in it but does show that MGRover can do an up to date design for the times.

Yes, it's hideous and looks like a vectra from the front, has the side profile of a proton satira neo if it was an estate, and the back looks like a kia c'eed, but it's still a very important vehicle for MG Rover. Surely MG could make more money selling off these rare prototype vehicles instead of scrapping them? I'd certainly be interested in this prototype. Not that I have much to spend on it. Then there's the question of does it actually have an engine in it and is it road legal.
Or if they're feeling charitable, they could give me the RDX60 :) |
That R45 new shape prototype was designed in 2005, so it will look out of sorts today, and like all things tested, was not going to be the finished article, please remember S525 OVP WAS going to be crushed until the R75 club saved that too from the Longbridge mafia of China MG.
China MG as it is to me are interested in MG as a money earner but no heritage which will not go down well with the MG brand fans. This is the point of China MG, THEY NEED THE LOYALTY. The r45 prototype SHOULD BE SAVED like S525 OVP! |

Every time I see this prototype it screams 'vauxhall signum'. But I have to say, it'd never win a prize for best looking, but I do still quite like it. It'd be a shame if any of them were crushed, but realistically, who's going to take them all in...

To me, it shows that MG Rover were going to lose their uniquely British heritage (as they have now) and sell out to the dreaded me too "Cross-over" - the name for a bloated hatchback that is pretending to be a 4x4. Times change, and design moves on, not always for the better, but it's a lesson that needs preserving, if only as a warning to future generations.

I worked at Longbridge until 2016 when production was stopped and I know for a fact a 75 limo is to be crushed along with the 75 5 millionth Rover.
