Surely that rules out a tappet problem? (i.e. the tick would happen every time if the tappets were causing it).

Either way, you could get all 24 lifters from DMGRS for £99.99, or 1 lifter for £4.99 (other quantity options as well), see dropdown here.

Rimmers prices at #16 here & here.

That's what makes it even more confusing I can't think of anything else though as I tried unplugging the purge valve and it was still there here it is cold starting today https://youtu.be/v6cOxKx6h5c

Well, there's definitely no tick on that recording.

Is the purge valve still unplugged?

No the purge valve is plugged in here

Have you tried using a listening stick to pinpoint the source? I use a piece a fibreglass rod from a vertical window blind (thumb over one end and press against the ear, other end on the engine).

My KV6 makes the same ticking sound every now and then. It sounds like just like a tappets problem but when I move the stick from the cylinder heads to the purge valve, the noise changes from mildly loud to positively deafening.

Another thought.

Did you unplug the purge valve while the tick was actually happening - or did you stop the engine and then unplug it?

I'm wondering if the purge valve is intermittently faulty - so the ticking noise is always there when the valve is working but never there when it's not (valve still plugged in).

Run an OBD to confirm whether the purge valve is faulty - should throw up code PO443 .

What OBD reader is needed to do it?

I used a screwdriver on my ear the manifold seemed quiet on the timing belt cover was quiet I could listen to the tick on the valve covers but I could not pin point it. Also I tried unplugging the purge valve both while the tick was happening and shuting the engine off unplugging and starting back up in both aucations the tick did not go away

I have a spare manifold and purge valve but I highly doubt it's the purge valve that's broken as I changed the manifold from my old 75 to this one with new vis motors which I knew it was good
