You can, and I did this morning as well. Great entertainment - just glad I didn't register to bid. Some tempting prices.

They stream all their auctions online. Nearly bought the last V8 ZT that went through there but got pipped to the post. Always a nice selection of rare things going through :)

Hammer fell at £ 8,000, Provisional sale only at present.

Yes I got it!
Went to see it last week but they wouldn't let me start and listen to engine. Only done 20k miles so thought would take the risk.
Driving it home tomorrow so will know then whether it was the right decision!!

Reebs 10th November 2020 03:58

Well done Steve, it looked a nice clean example so hopefully will bring you miles of smiles. :driving:

Let us know how you find it and post some pictures too if you can. It’s a pre-facelift 260 SE with the same spec as mine, so I would imagine you could add the electric rear blind to yours too if you wanted. Mine had the wiring all in place behind the heated seat switch packs. Welcome to the V8 club.

Nice one Steve.

I've got an original throttle chamber with a pony on it if you want to replace the existing. It came off mine. The Two Sixties also has larger throttle inlet to sharpen up the peddle response. :D

Even though you weren't allowed to start it they must have given you a guarantee of some sort on the engine and running gear.---

Many thanks may give that a go. So far the only issue is the handbrake which is very poor - don't know how it passed an mot? Got new handbrake cables on order from rimmer and a mini compensate from eBay - so that will be first job.

Thanks for the offer and info. Sorting out the niggles at the moment. The engine is certainly a big lump compared to my mgb i am used to playing with.

No guarantee or anything. They had a video online you can watch old it running. Put a copy of it on my blog I've started to record my exploits with the car at http://mgzt.info . Keeps me occupied whilst the wife watches soaps on tv!

Wow what a drive! Went well and so far pleased with car and relieved just a few niggles to sort - i hope.
Took it to my local garage who had it on ramps and took it for a drive (he's into American cars) and have it the thumbs up. Found previous owners no in paperwork so phoned him. Says only selling due to retiring and moving to a smaller house with fewer garages!! so selling a couple of his classics. He bought it off mg and garaged it and light use since.
Hopefully got a decent buy.
PS. sorry for delay in response.

Hello Steve and congratulations on your purchase. Here's a note which may save you a lot of unnecessary work. Don't rush to fit the new cables. They are very unlikely to be at fault, particularly after only 20,000 miles! I was amazed to find that my handbrake suddenly became easier to adjust and its performance improved when it was time to fit new rear discs! I didn't touch anything else, having set up the cable at the lever some years earlier.

I'd start by trying a simple adjustment at both lever and shoes; you might be surprised seeing as the car has had little use (not good for handbrakes). The next stage would be removal of the disc/drum to check dimensions, clean out and lubricate. Over the years with various cars I have enjoyed great success with this approach. Good luck! :}

As Simon mentioned above, it won't be the cables.

Most R75s have poor handbrakes due to a film of rust forming inside the rear drums and acting like a lubricant.--

The normal cure over lets say a month is to gently apply the hand brake whilst on the move. This will have the effect of removing the rust from the drums. The better the polish the better the hand brake will work.

No need normally to have to strip anything down.---:D:D:D

Wouldn't be so sure, without seeing the car. Last one of mine I had to fix (V6 75 Auto) was CERTAINLY a stretched compensator on the front cable piece, and the the same is true of my R75V8 waiting to be done using a Mini R53 one, before next spring's annual check. The adjustment is all used up. Agree though that drum filth can more often be a problem with autos because of the little use the handbrake gets in many cases.

Another one up for auction.

Another one up for auction in almost a month. This time ZT 260 #101.

Says it's Zircon but looks like Starlight. Thought #002 was 260-unique in being Zircon Silver?

Ah, but was yours 20,000 miles only.

Normally the cables get stretched because the owner doesn't know how to get over the problem.--Just simply keeps pulling the hand brake up until it's under his armpit.--:eek:

Self inflicted injury.--:D--One of the R75s little foibles.--If you have the knowledge then the cables don't get stretched.

When you become a member of this forum then this gem of knowledge gets passed on down to you.--;););)

Hi David,

I think we're talking about different things. I was referring to the cables ....

I also believe that handbrakes are a problem with all vehicles:

How many drivers do you see sitting with their foot on the footbrake for long periods rather than using the handbrake? It's not just automatics, it's virtually everybody!

I think this is getting more & more common due to hill assist on modern cars. My wife's newish Mitsubishi ASX has this and its so easy to use instead of handbrake (or lazier). Obviously, this doesn't apply to 75 / ZT's :)
