Codename R40 Documentary Disc release
Just thought I would rejoin to proudly state that Codename R40 The Story of the 75 and MG ZT is now finished and on sale in DVD or Blu-Ray.
I’ve been beavering away with John Clancy for almost two years on this project. Needless to say, the end result is quite special in our opinion. Have to say We’ve both been knocked down and chuffed at the overwhelming response and support from all those, including you guys who stepped forward to contribute. Thanks to you all from the very bottom of our hearts. Here’s a link to the full sp... https://autobritannia.net/2020/09/28...4KoM9wXj38hyXg Best Wishes Mike Humble (AROnline) |

The Ultimate Rover 75 Documentary
This is a truly epic work, spanning two discs with first hand interviews with the key people involved with the inception, design, and production process of Rover 75.
John Clancy the director and Mike Humble the presenter have been working on this for the past two years and I can say hand on heart that in my humble opinion it is THE definitive work on the history of the car we all love. As well as the main feature, on disc two you'll find the extended interviews filmed at the home of Peter Morgan project manager of R40, discussions that were wonderful to be a part of from my own point of view as I represented the club and brought along OVP the club's Classic 1.8 saloon. Also on disc two you'll find a special feature recorded at The Pride Of Longbridge and at our Club National Meet at The Fleet Air Arm, where many member's cars were filmed and interviews to camera taken from the likes of Bluejon, Eric Druyts, and LimoRog as well as scoubix from Paris. It's definitely worth investing in  |
Hi, I've just clicked onto the link supplied to view and order and my computer tells me the site is not secure. What's that about??

Got mine.I just love watching the cars at shows and overhead shots.made me go and clean mine!!

Just done with watching all of it including extras...
A great piece of work indeed, and humbled to be featured in there as well ;-) John and Mike certainly deserve major sales numbers on these given the time (and money) they've invested in this pet-project. My own favorites are the bonus full length interviews of the project team led by Peter Morgan and the interview with Richard Woolley. The amount of information and bits shared by Peter Morgan in particular were really something. So go buy this one gents... NOW !! :D |
Code Name R40
Hi I have watched the DVD from beginning to end and can say it is one of the best DVD`s I have ever seen on an individual car. Hearing from the guys talking about the 75 from the beginning along with the issues they had along the way right up to the 75 going into production was quite eye opening as most of us know nothing about the time involved and the number of people it takes to get a project into production. All the people who were shown were smiling and were proud as they spoke fondly of one of the best cars ever that they had been envolved with , and they new it.From the first time I saw the rear of a 75 saloon in the late 90`s on the cover of a motoring magazine I wanted one but had to wait for some years later , but certainly worth the wait ! It certainly made me feel more proud of the lovely 2004 connie se that I have owned for seven years ( issues included) and I rate it as the best car I have ever owned.Well done !

Howmany minutes is the dvd?

Yep just got through the 3+ hours: very good indeed - what an enormous amount of work involved. I thought it was interesting for what was NOT filmed, ie no examination of the Phoenix debacle - what happened to the money - maybe legal inhibitions lurking. Just one sentence slipped in about the Facelift - no discussion, unless I missed it - on why and whether it was thought to be an improvement (I often see one, or rather recognise it as a R75 when it's gone past). I would have liked someone to have asked who thought it was a good idea to put the ECU in the plenum? And I didn't see any mention of why the diesel was detuned to 130HP - and also would have been illuminating to have had input from BigRuss and MarinaBrian on their cracking of the codes . . .
I do hope some way is found by The Mods to highlight this excellent DVD to new members or a permanent sticky on the Forum somewhere so this doesn't get forgotten and overlooked. |
Just ordered mine. Looking forward to watching it.

My copy arrived yesterday and today I made some time to sit down and watch it. I enjoyed every minute of it but it is so thorough that I'll need to watch it a few more times yet to take it all in. Awesome project though, great value for money and I would recommend it to anyone.

Mine arrived and I started watching today. What a pleasure to see my newest purchased car in the video! This puts a Huge smile on my face. Can anyone tell me, the car on the cover of the dvd, which one is used for that? YPG496? Edit: I AM proud because I do recognise this being my car now! Happy owner here!
|
This is a must watch for any 75 fan. Really enjoyed it.
The Rover guys were so proud of the car that they made. |
I have just ordered a copy.
I look forward to watching it. |
I finally thought I should join the forum despite not being a Rover 75 or MG ZT owner but in case anyone is wondering, I'm the chap who created the 'Code Name R40' Blu-ray and DVD release.
Just short of 270 copies have been sold as I write so I've almost reached my top estimate of 300. A few enthusiasts reported that they could not purchase via my TriumphDVD web site and so I also listed some discs on eBay but have just had to remove that listing owing to a purchaser claiming I am a pirate. Sorry about that. I have taken the matter up with eBay but I won't hold my breath. If anyone starts to see copies of my work available for sale from anyone else could you please let me know because that will confirm my suspicions of what this eBay purchaser was really up to. And I do have his name... or rather three names as he uses multiple identities/aliases. Anyone who wants to contact me privately please ping me a message on this forum or email me. My email can be had from my TriumphDVD web site if it's not accessible on here. Thank you all for supporting this major piece of work which took me almost three years and 3000 manhours to complete. Hope to meet some of you in the future as I expect to get along to plenty of shows as usual... once I've been injected by a nice nursie of course! John. |
Hi John, great to see you on the forum, welcome! You did an amazing piece of work creating the movie, I am very happy owning the DVD now, a real pleasure to watch it! See you somewhere in the future!
Thanks and regards, Emiel PS, it is never to late to become a Rover 75 owner:}:} |

Oh, and welcome to the forum :} Cliff |
Hello John,
Following our discussion, really pleased you've joined the Forum. I can vouch for all the other comments about this excellent piece of work, and I've watched it twice over thus far [it's taken longer than anticipated due to finding my TV didn't like the DVD format and ran in black and white, so old laptop with DVD drive came to the rescue, plus getting conjunctivitis that stopped me watching anything!]. Some nuggets in there like the M47R diesel being made specially for Rover to be the prototype for BMW's version. I agree you should get a 75 or ZT to run around in and give the TR7 a rest occasionally! Hope this helps to generate the additional sales to meet the 300 figure Kevin |
Is there a way to obtain a digital version of it? Even if I order a DVD, optical units such as Cd-Rom's and DVD-Rom's are obsolete here for years and I have no way to play it :duh:
|
I'll second that for a digital copy. If possible, I usually go for downloads rather than discs, as I try to save on physical storage space. I have personal cloud based PC storage with separate backup, much easier than physical items.
|
Despite some heavy hints, I didn't get this from Father Christmas. :D
I ordered up a copy and have to say that I think it is excellent. It is a must buy for anyone interested in the history of the car. I know that it is a good car, but I didn't appreciate how far forward they were in World leading design, development and production. ;) |
Just ordered a copy looks very interesting!:}
|
Is this dvd still available (or better still a download)? I meant to order one when it came out but never got round to it.

Hi Emiel.Had a good chat to John via email. Ordered the dvd after coming back from a few days away on Saturday. John said he will post it on Monday.. looking forward to watching it. As you know, he has a ‘secret’ website for purchasers, with plenty more dvd’s On a lot of motors. Thinking of getting the one on the Rover SD1. I had two of them. 2.6/3.5 V8.

Update of R40 DVD
Just to let people know, who may want to buy a copy of the DVD, that it is still available, however, if you visit the site using 'Firefox' browser, its security setting will block the site, but if you use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (or I presume any other Chromium based browser) you'll be able to access the site and order the DVD, even though the site is flagged as 'insecure' in the address bar, the PayPal checkout works OK and is fully secured.
John who owns the site is aware of the problem with the security settings on the site. This is the direct link to the 'Codename R40' DVD: http://www.bfcc.biz/triumphdvd/rover75.html Steve |
Works with my Firefox
|
I've done a bit of investigating, Firefox on linux blocks the site, but Firefox on Windows (10 & 11) opens the site, but with a warning about the site not being secure, I'm now thinking that security settings on my linux set-up are a bit more hardened than the Windows set up
