I am extremely proud to say this is my new MG ZTT 190 in Trophy Yellow, one of only 26 tourers made on this colour.

Plans? Plenty........this is the first...oh and brand new VIS motors fitted today!

Ive sat on this seat upgrade for a LONG time waiting on the right car to fit it into, a rare fully adjustable passenger seat.

Impossible to get one matching your interior, so im a luckyman! Coming next..... colour coded trim tidying!

You must be really chuffed, it looks great!
One question though, is that a banana on the tailgate or is it just the car is pleased to see you?

Robson Rover Repair 12th April 2014 23:47

That will be coming off when I detar the car next week!

Frank Incensed 13th April 2014 06:00

How Could You Hide That?

Looks fantastic .... Can't wait to see the plans unfold for this one :}
I do love the ZT-T and in yellow it looks stunning

Robson Rover Repair 13th April 2014 16:17

Well it will be completely OEM, with as many rare parts from the pre project drive Zt's fitted.

Wheels will change to straights with the serpent cap in a shadow chrome at some stage.

deanbmx 13th April 2014 16:20

it looks lovely. true banana.

Just back from the Gaydon meet and read this.
Do I detect a double entendre designed to outwit moderators?

Moonshine Mark 13th April 2014 21:40

The car looks brilliant Colin, I love it :drool4:

I can see why you're interested in the yellow dash now ;)

Very nice mate. I do like them aftermarket alloyz
on it. They do look a nice design for the zt . And love the zt
in yellow .

FrazzleTC 15th April 2014 11:39

Stunning car, Colin. I remember seeing it on gumtree about a year ago, and thinking it looked spectacular. My favourite colour for a ZT.

Robson Rover Repair 16th April 2014 00:08

Yes sadly it needs a clutch already!

With the vis's sorted, manifold sorted and throttle etc all sorted the car is well on power, and it was.

And then it slipped 3/4/5 gear and has been doing so since.

Aw well, 71k on it, 12 year old car, always something, to be fair will be only part I havn't got spare!

That I know of, having now owned 2 of the total 91 made, with the saloon crushed sadly! I think that makes me certain there's not another in the country!

McLaren 30th April 2014 02:12

Very nice.

Yossarian 2nd May 2014 20:49

Ooh, just seen this. Very nice. Nice to see another one out there. I've still never seen another one in the flesh and we're not likely to cross paths are we? Yours is higher spec than mine. Mine's a basic one, wind up rear windows, twisty dial heater controls and Matrix seats, which I actually think suit the car really well. But it's yellow and it's a V6, what more do you need.

Robson Rover Repair 4th May 2014 18:15

Well I want to bring her to an event or big show this year depending on funds, would be nice to get to one of the mainland national days next year.

I whipped out the basic interior in mine and fitted matrix (Blue and Yellow). The matrix suits yellow cars very well.

Robson Rover Repair 3rd June 2014 17:24

Clutch and slave ordered, had tried fitting a new master I had but with no joy and it just leaked outta the slave. Doh.

Roll on next week to get it fitted.

Robson Rover Repair 5th June 2014 16:04

With the car being immobile until the clutch arrives im assuming myself otherwise.

Not being a fan of tints with more bubbles in them than an aero bar, I de-tinted the car.

And god I wish I hadn't, I used to fit tints and graphics but this material was cheap, nasty and left glue like you wouldnt believe.

10 hours later with the glue remover and we have a much nicer car IMO.

Clutch next!

Robson Rover Repair 18th June 2014 17:09

The clutch is in at last, and whilst I wait for a MOT date, ive been at last starting to tidy up the car.

First job, under the bonnet!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...4.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...f.jpg~original

If its yellow now, I can almost certainly assure you it was road tar, black gunk, general mud and other crud from 12 years on the road.

Robson Rover Repair 24th June 2014 16:08

Following on from the wheels thread earlier, I thought I would update this now showing how I feel the car should look and is progressing.

When I got the car I made the claim my goal was for her to be the best ZT/ZT-T in Ireland. I feel this has taken a step forwards towards it.

Having sorted everything for the MOT now I just have to await a booking day next month when im paid, but mean time ive been doing all the jobs ive wanted to and finally the car is "finished" as far as I can go without starting to spend chunks of cash on it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...4.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...9.jpg~original

Fitted the 18 inch hairpins from my silver 75 having done a swap of the old wheels for a set of flakey hairpins for the rough 75. Then calipers done in a custom mix as close to trophy yellow as possible using hammerite and a few other metal yellows. Rest of the running gear is done is a nice satin black hammerite also.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...b.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...6.jpg~original

Bought some industrial oven cleaner (seriously!) and used it on the Hairpins to get about 12 years of road tar and dirt off them, good job and didn't lift lacquer or wheel weights off them being to strong.

Under the bonnet is still sparkling....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...c.jpg~original

.....again the oven cleaner has came in handy here, lifting off dirt and tar lol.

And then for the interior, well this has been a labour of love. First of all the boot, previously used for transporting fishing tackle and a large black dog you can imagine the hair and general dirt found. Finally thats sorted. Ignore the last of the fabric freshener settling in photo.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...0.jpg~original

Then came the hard part. Alcantara. Bobbled alcantara specifically, no rips in fabric but the worst ive saw on any zt or ztt yet, these are the end results of nearly two hours of very slow de-bobbling per seat.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...b.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...2.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...0.jpg~original
(Again not a stain thankfully on seat, just drying out after cleaning gently!)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...7.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...6.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...9.jpg~original

I then got round to cleaning the carpets by hand with a scrubbing brush and daz!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...d.jpg~original

And finally fitted another rarity. The very early "real" Rhidium dash, was looking forward to that fitted as its quite a rare piece and was something I kept from the other yellow ZT to fit into a special car.

I am very proud with how its turning out.

Brabus 24th June 2014 19:02

Car looks superb Colin:drool4:

Robson Rover Repair 1st July 2014 21:39

Thanks mate, hopefully the MOT man will think the same. :duh:

Robson Rover Repair 30th October 2014 20:00

Well the car passed the mot a while ago so happy days.

Been enjoying her and now with the remap today she's certainly a tad more sharper than before.

6 months Road tax was an unpleasant experience today but what can you do! Worth nothing that a years would have been £32 cheaper so might do that next time.

I've been busy acquiring more parts and bits for her.

I also have a set of original MG Rover skirts for her, and the motobuild rear spats and this front bumper extension along with a spare yellow front bumper from my previous Trophy Yellow 190 saloon.

Robson Rover Repair 26th December 2014 02:02

I said my car would be getting a big update this year and I'm determined to build the best zt-t in Ireland North or south in a seriously limited budget.

So stage 1 going into 2015 is the following gift from my wife to me and as you can see Santa was very kind to me this year.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...l.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...2.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...i.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...j.jpg~original

So that's a full set of black leather from another mg zt-t, with heating, Electric controls, memory seating and TV head rests also to connect to my double din. Need a little adaptor for them but will sort that in new year.

Full mg seated leather is ****** hard to find in a car, never mind come up for sale so this was a serious bit of luck.

As mine is an early 2002 I was lucky to have all the correct working looms for this upgrade so it's all in and ready to rock and it all works bar the heated seats but I haven't checked the fuse in the fuse box yet as my back has been bad for some time now.

Stage 2 will appear before the new year all going well, stage 3 before the summer and after that it's the ultimate accessory which is a 2 parts of stage 4 and stage 5 by then I'm hoping this will not just be the best zt-t in Ireland but contender for the best in the world. No more spoilers until then!

LotusLC 26th December 2014 13:46

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...v.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...n.jpg~original

My hairpins, one was bent, all 5 where flaking, kerbed and generally not up to the standard I wanted.

So I arranged a group buy locally with a company "Polished Alloys" in Dundonald for the Irish / NI owners and brought my wheels down earlier in the month.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...m.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...g.jpg~original

As you can see the insides where stinking and this was after I'd cleaned them with industrial wheel cleaner!!

And I wanted the centre caps perfect also so I removed all badges and sent them down for paint also.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...c.jpg~original

So first off all the acid dipping!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08....jpeg~original

Then the glass beading!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08....jpeg~original

Then the shadow chrome powder coating was applied and several layers of laquor applied to give extra protection.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08....jpeg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08....jpeg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08....jpeg~original

Get one of these mate

Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...384551&alt=web

And just take your time. I am not a fan of the razor approach, so I did two passes with the machine, one with the blue lip on it, the second with just the metal face on it and job done.

Robson Rover Repair 23rd February 2015 02:11

Not how I planned to spend my weekend. Thursday evening on route to the MG owners club at autobahn speeds the angry wasp blew her cool and overheated to 110 degrees after spending a few hours cleaning her over.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...i.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...k.jpg~original

Nursed her home and spent last two days checking her over top to bottom figuring out the coolant issue. Was worried was facing water pump or thermostat failure so was my first point of call checking both.

Thankfully turned out to be combination of the total failure of the 2 speed fan which seems to have ruined the O rings in coolant cap also.

Three speed fan fitted, header tank changed, few perished pipes swapped over for good measure and coolant flush with new OAT and so far seems to be behaving herself.

Just gotta get some Aircon topped up now! Mind you gave me a chance to clean all the engine bay area I wouldn't normally get access to so make most of bad situations.

Robson Rover Repair 10th May 2015 15:18

Next stage begins at the end of the month.

Ideally I'd love a full respray and that will happen in the future but in the mean time I'm contending myself with some bits and pieces.

So first things first, I've sourced a "motobuild" front splitter (had to drive to Dublin to pick that up for only £25 plus made it a day out for the wife so bonus husband points) to get painted and fit to the spare yellow bumper I have.

I've also got my original mg rover side skirts from my old lqw to get painted and I've sourced a set of rear fibreglass spats (and I've a second set coming soon for another project). Them and a pair of wing mirror covers will keep me happy for another two years before full respray.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...z.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...l.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...b.jpg~original

And the skirts (with the mk1 spats mine are mk2)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...2.jpg~original

Hoping to have it all done for end of July latest.

LotusLC 10th May 2015 16:19

Will look very nice when done.
I bought a bumper that has the splitter fitted but it has been flared in, are you doing this?, or just having it as a separate piece..

Robson Rover Repair 10th May 2015 16:55

Want it as a separate piece myself, if I smoothed it I can guarantee I'd smash it first day lol.

Plus then can take off for repair or repaint etc etc.

LotusLC 10th May 2015 17:15

Smashing it on speed bumps is my biggest concern:duh:,but will try to go slow over them. A lot of work has gone into getting this bumper fettled,(thanks cazemi) so really hope it is ok, i can always put the original bumper back on tho if need be ..

cazemi 10th May 2015 18:30

i'm drawn to that subtle yellow....
i think it should be illegal to smooth glass fibre splitters into plastic bumpers, not that i'm biased in any way, shape or form......dont ask me why i think this:D:D

Great work Colin. ;)

Robson Rover Repair 20th May 2015 13:11

Thanks mate.

Truthfully they won't stay forever, I've one wheel in mind I've always wanted on the car (and my old zt). The bbs lm-r (not the lm) in 19 inch both 7.5 front and rear with matching dishes.

It will happen over winter hopefully.

Robson Rover Repair 20th June 2015 20:10

Well a frankly **** week and half of ownership for me.

These two photos sum it all up.

1st one, Tyre exploded, car span and by time car stopped whole tyre was shredded clean off the rim.

Never had one as bad as this!

And no wasn't one of my Michelin, it was a new Contential tyre that I bought in October!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...q.jpg~original

This one let go about 1/2 mile from my house today also.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...a.jpg~original

Ruined my day after night shift. Had booked while day off to go to the best car show in NI, and instead was running around trying to get tyres on a Saturday morning.

So had enough of the Contential tyres, pulled them all off and bought a set of Bridgestone which where of spec on our cars.

When was at it did the annual caliper paint and figured would be a good idea to maybe touch up some areas of car with hammerite also.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...a.png~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...x.png~original

End result

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...8.jpg~original

Ravinder 20th June 2015 20:29

That's a shame. Glad you got it sorted. You should complain to the tyre manufacturer?

Robson Rover Repair 20th June 2015 20:32

Didn't want to know about first one, 2nd on not wasting my time.

LotusLC 20th June 2015 20:37

Blimey that tyre letting go like that is not good :eek:, your end result looks very good tho :}

Robson Rover Repair 20th June 2015 20:47

Will do rest of rear arms, when she's on ramps next week or two.

andymc 21st June 2015 09:26

Might not feel like it in the immediate aftermath, but you had a very lucky escape to not hit anyone/anything else, not flip the car and most importantly not be injured or worse yourself. Glad you're still around to tell us about it.

As for Continental Tyres, I think a call to Trading Standards is in order. If nothing else, another victim may not be so fortunate. I certainly won't be considering them when my tyres are up for replacement.

Robson Rover Repair 21st June 2015 16:07

Well I've had Contential on my ZT's always as replacement for Bridgestone petonza when they wear out.

Had 6 years of specifically buying them to fit to my various ZT's, and both where sport contact 3 which failed.

I'm quite sure the 2nd one was manufacturing issue as has all the trade marks of a issue in layers under the main tread compiund (I build tyres myself for Michelin for a living so know what I'm talking about) but there was so little left of the 1st one was had to inspect. We even had it on out inspection desk to figure out what had happened!

When I've a year under my belt will get a complementary set of Michelin tyres and likely go for the Pilot Sport 3 or depending if freelander is sorted a set of British Goodrich at 4x4 tyres.

itchyfeet 21st June 2015 16:23

Very surprised that happened on such high quality tyres. Glad you're safe. Very scary.

Robson Rover Repair 13th August 2015 00:11

Well you may have noticed last few weeks ive not been on the forum as much, well ive had a string of bad luck.

Lost my job, lost my grandmother and my v6 engine let go, havnt pulled old one appart yet to figure out what it was, but sump off showed hundreds of good sized metal flakes.

So between one thing and another ive been working on the car, ive no shed or garage to work from so ive been weather dependant. Which for last 6 weeks in NI has been "******* ****" to say the least.

So got the engine out at least.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...i.jpg~original

So old engine out, and replacement engine in.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...h.jpg~original

Except it wasnt quite that easy. During the swap with my old 190 I discovered the car it had came from was early, and I mean very early.

First problem, had to swap the entire loom from old engine. Why? Well id left the loom on the engine and wrapped up and exposed parts in padding and plastic bags. Well sure enough opened the main block bag and I had mice had munched and made a nest in the loom. FFS.

As im colour blind I dont do wiring, but I took my time and took loads of photos and swapped it all over.

Next was something that I hadnt spied until the engine was back in, and thank god I had the crane still to lift it out again to give me access. Sump swap and oil cooler removal (older type didnt fit the newer type pipes on my subframe and didnt have an early v6 subframe to swap over so had to work with what I had), oil pipes to it (which where seized solid, days work in that alone), coolant pipes where different but that was easily worked out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08....jpeg~original

Havnt got the fluids in it yet, but hopefully soon. MOT prep it and go from there, hopefully the engine runs!

By 'eck you've been a busy lad on that car! Bummer to hear what a nightmare it's been but your perseverance seems to have paid off, well done.

Sorry to hear of your run of awful news.

andymc 13th August 2015 10:11

Jeez, nobody's having an easy time of it, are they? Hope things improve for you soon Colin.

LotusLC 13th August 2015 11:41

Sorry to hear of the loss as your Grandmother and hope a job crops up soon.
Car will be fine looks like your almost there.

Alan123 19th August 2015 21:16

Colin did you change the belts before dropping lump back in.

Robson Rover Repair 19th August 2015 22:18

Couldnt afford it with being unemployed. Save for it in the future.

coab 20th August 2015 07:15

Fair play to you Colin maybe we could organise a whip round to help with your project.
Youve had some bad luck and yet you keep going.

Wouldn't a penny mate. I've signed on now so as far as I'm concerned that's only money I deserve until I find a job.

Robson Rover Repair 21st August 2015 04:29

Car started today. Had blown a mega fuse.

Had the wrong wire as an earth and wrong wire to mega fuse.

Booked mot for late September

Just gotta run her to temps now to check for leaks, bleed clutch and everything else has been done for mot as I've been going alone so waiting game now.

Robson Rover Repair 22nd August 2015 23:57

I thought I'd share this with everyone.

In this 2 min video I managed to strip down an entire v6 engine ready for removal bar the drives hats.

https://youtu.be/jqpOxTIveyw

I had planned to time-lapse the entire thing, removal, refitting etc but I crupted my phone memory and lost all of it bar this initial "disconnect" section.

Was lapsed at a speed of 15 seconds to each second.

LotusLC 23rd August 2015 20:13

Enjoyed watching the video, even the dogs were taking an interest

Robson Rover Repair 10th September 2015 22:31

Well the never ending saga continues.

Thermostat blew on me coming home from National owners day on 31st.

So has been parked up since, and shall be starting into it tomorrow.

Name of god, beyond a joke.

andymc 11th September 2015 08:58

Jeez, if it wasn't for bad luck ...

Robson Rover Repair 22nd September 2015 23:17

Well that turned into a cluster!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...g.jpg~original

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/08...b.jpg~original

Thermostat has shattered in three places on "the pipe" part and the main unit had fractured also.

Clean nightmare getting it out of the recessed hole. Fitted at last with my new unit which was in old engine less than 6 months, first time I've ever gotten one out without damaging it. Was over the moon as didn't cost me a penny.

Local mg dealer wants £170 plus vat to do the same job. Cost me £0.00

Robson Rover Repair 25th September 2015 12:06

After all the hassle, passed mot today with flying colours!!!

andymc 25th September 2015 12:13

Congratulations Colin, that must feel very satisfying.

Robson Rover Repair 25th September 2015 21:56

And now the rebuilt engine bay (again) , with all black bits and parts.

Spare alternator sitting for my to polish up. Along with a spare 190 throttle body.

Yes, I'm that sad lol.

Years mot today and all it took was a good cleaning and a new ball joint pinch bolt which had stretched.

Rooney 28th March 2017 20:40

Looks amazing, can't believe I've not seen this before.

Jealous much ?? - um - yep :)

Robson Rover Repair 28th March 2017 22:49

I only bring her out for Mg rover meets and the occasional drive, out of all my zt's I've owned its definitely the best but the amount of rebuilding I've done means I trust the car.

Also something about it, even compared to other zt's I've owned with the sports suspension it just pushes harder into corners and holds better.

I maintain the early 190 v6 which I've now fitted is a smoother engine compared to the later version.

Robson Rover Repair 14th April 2017 22:35

Well I'm currently in Birmingham, home of Mg rover and when I'm here at the pride of Longbridge show tomorrow I popped over to the factory in the ztt and took some pics with my mates who are from north and south.

This little plinth is the meca of the Mg rover world lol.

Very nice. We were there yesterday but it was raining and cold.

Robson Rover Repair 28th April 2017 20:14

I absolutely adore this car despite its paint work faults, and "might" have went a little over the top cleaning it today to do what I can with her.....

Several hand washes, De-tar, de-iron, 3 coats of polish and some interior cleaning and she's as clean as I would ever be bothered cleaning my cars.

When your polishing your chassis in the engine bay you know you have serious issues.

For those that don't know, my ztt has laid parked up for just over 3 years now. In that time I'd been laid off twice and had to many other projects come along that I'd gravitated towards.

https://i.postimg.cc/76qptt35/FB_IMG_1584395210171.jpg

Taken at POL 2017 in a better state.

But now it's back and my full focus over the next few months.

Major issues with fueling, pumps, injectors, tanks, basically the whole lot had annoyed me and I'd lost interest.

The good weather and all my other projects coming together motivated me and I made a start into it.

It moved under its own power for first time in those 3 years after a lot of work!

And before I do anything to it, it needs a good wash.

Sadly there is a lot of laquor damage from the sun, and several stone chips already. Tbh I'm not sure if it will need a full respray but definitely paint work along the way.

Mean time timing belts, service and brake overhaul next.

Robson Rover Repair 15th September 2021 22:34

Well as some of you may have spied on my social media the car is currently being totally and ultimately overhauled mechanically in almost every single aspect.

If anyone wants I've done several YouTube videos on the project.

Project Alice - MG ZT-T 190

Today the car came off the ramp, and it needs a few tweeks, but it's getting there. Paint will be bad for another year or so sadly due to other priorities but she's back.

Oh and she goes. Missed this car.

Ravinder 20th September 2021 23:08

Looks lovely.
