number plates

I am looking to get some new numbers plates and I know about seller hardridden on ebay who can do plates with the MG/Rover logos.

His site lets you preview the design and to have the text "MG Rover Group" and the logos, in different sizes.

The choices of size range from 2mm to 13mm, but I am not sure what the measurements refer to, the letters or the logos.

So does anyone have any photos of ther plates 'in situ' on the car and in particular can you say what size you selected for the logo/strapline. Front and rear if poss.

Thanks

Pompey_ant 30th May 2014 21:34

Here is mine from Hardridden. I didn't know what size to go for either and went for size 10. It refers to the logo at the bottom of the plate. The normal registration lettering cannot be changed in size for legal reasons. See mine below, hope it helps!

Demon Plates make some amazing number plates. You can customise them every which way from sunday.

The raised carbon fibre looks superb IMO ;)

Any more pics of other logo sizes, or front plates with the logos? Thank you.

That plate is a legal plate. For such plates, Demon Plates require you to scan and email your documents. you can just see the BS mark in the top right hand corner. I go for 3D text.

If you click on the 'Plate size' Tab, at the top then click on Model-specific car plates, then click on ROVER 75 (INCLUDING ZT) you will get the smiley plate;)

+1

Yes they are road legal. carbon effect is legal (as is 3D & 'Hi-Line' font finishes) adn the typeface and letter size is within spec.

Plus they double as show plates because they look awesome IMO :D

Not wanting to seem picky (I can be a pedantic so & so at times :o), but it would seem that the MG logo under the GB symbol contravenes DVLA requirements, which states that "You are not allowed to display any other flag or symbol..." (other than the EU, or National flag - see page 12 here: https://www.gov.uk/government/upload.../dg_067666.pdf)

Having said that, I have to agree, they are stunning looking plates, :drool4: and in the real world, I don't suppose the MG symbol would cause any issues unless you are unfortunate enough to get pulled by a traffic cop who is having a bad day!

Not been pulled yet (Touch Wood :duh:) and my MOT tester didn't question anything. I did ask him however when i took it in, as i was unsure about the raised letters. He apparently checked with the Doovla and they said they were fine.

Teflon 2nd June 2014 10:41

I must admit, I've never seen the raised letters before. They really do look good.

I would hope that the police have better things to worry about than "illicit" MG badges, so hopefully you'll be ok - would be a real shame to have to change those plates. Need a fingers crossed smiley here! :D

Stay away from Cheshire then ! The entire force seems to be on traffic duties ................

The raised carbon design looks awesome.... Have just ordered a set :drool4:

My current plates have the name of a garage on them that i wouldn't use if they were the last on earth... No more free advertising for them!

Thank you. In that case I'm going 3D carbon effect when we get ours done! After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... :D

Ordered a set from Hardridden on Monday and they arrived today. Standard front and "smiley" rear complete with MG Rover Group branding. Excellent quality, will upload a photo once they are on.:}

Scaramanga 5th June 2014 16:20

Recieved my new plates today with the carbon fibre lettering (that was quick!) and I must say they look awesome. A nice finishing touch on an, as yet, unfinished car..

Pic to follow....

Also gives you another chance to advertise the club - along the bottom of the plate...

I have to admit, I am usually a bit of a purist, but these look fantastic. May even have to consider myself some! :)

Jay 6th June 2014 07:44

I don't think I am going to win any brownie points for this but IMHO the carbon effect plates suit the sporty MG's more than the stately 75's. That's why I went for the 3D effect flat text type (see Post #6) but each to there own.

BigAde 6th June 2014 08:20

Like the raised lettering - also like the fact that the blue stripe goes all the way from top to bottom - something some of the others don't seem to do any more. Such a pity that my plates are still in very good condition albeit with slightly faded lettering so can't really justify it.

Demonplates also do raised, standard black lettering.

BTW, i seem to have generated them a little business. I am not affiliated in any way :p:

That's correct Tom. It is called 'Domed Black'. I have been fighting their corner since I joined this site and ever since because the numerous design applications online and their quality of plate.

I only called them last Tuesday to order a specific plate not available through the online sight. A 6.5" x 6.5" road legal motorcycle plate with the BS mark on with a black boarder with 3D text for a side plate holder for the Harley:cool:

As I (and others, including lawwyers) understand it, what matters to the law is what's in the area of a standard plate, the dimensions of which are specified. As the "smiley" plate is larger and the logos are outside the specified area , there's absolutely no problem. You can have what you like outside the dimensions of a standard plate. So long as it's not obscene or libelous, of course.:D

MGBJM 7th June 2014 08:55

Don't know if this helps, but I believe this is an original plate to use as reference (someone will let you know if I'm wrong:D)

Interestingly, the postcode comes up as no longer in use according to Mr Google... sorry the pic's are a bit poor - it's raining here so I used my phone instead of camera.

Well finally got my new plate. In relation to the question I asked in the original post, I used the plate designer on the hardridden ebay site and chose '2mm' for the black outline (line thickness) and '12mm' for the logo. In reality, this made the Rover logo just about 11mm tall. I think it has given a nice proportion.

Suits It
