Blimey, he's keen. Makes a nice change. 😊

''this came out in 2001'' wonder why?
''the BMW influence, which makes it so good'' errrrm ''this is pure BMW e60, e46, e39'' ''bear in mind this model's model number is the R40, which is a BMW product range, same as the Mini was the R50 when it first came around'' Maybe they bought it from Honda from the R8? and he isnt even ignorant of that???? :duh: :duh: with a more subdued tone ''....nice little lozenge shaped handles in the back as well'' <quickly move on> Jeeez .............. BMW BMW BMW BMW - I wish MGJohn was about to comment. I dont normally care about the BMW comparisons, but this is just perpetuating the myths, and I am only 8 minutes in ........ I am going to watch the rest, am waiting for him to actually say something like ''this engine is so great, I wonder why BMW didnt keep it for themselves'' If you want to buy it £3995 |
Having plenty of Rover 75’s and ZT’s plus a BMW E90 facelift, i’d say all the guy seems to go on about is BMW this BMW that, some of his facts are a bit incorrect like side impact airbags fitted as standard in 2006 err don’t think so mate, all the talk about it’s preproject drive but yet it doesn’t have chrome lashings in the boot or the spare wheel cover circular stowage area lid
Then under the Bonnet The original 3 separate labels were replaced by 1 single label incorporating air conditioning, coolant and engine specification information if you notice he has only 1 label. Plus he doesn’t have a real wood – as he points out with the passengers airbag I could go on and on listing all the PPD items that his car doesn’t have but just can’t really be bothered I think I’ve made the point He keeps saying over and over this is a pre-project drive well he doesn’t know what he’s talking about really, if you’re going to make a video and highlight XY and Z at least know what you’re talking about, I’m not knocking the guys enthusiasm for Rover 75 tourer’s but I got so bored of it halfway through I thought there’s better ways to spend my time, I would say however he did have a nice clean tidy version The more and more he went on about BMW the more and more I thought this video is starting to bore me a bit. It’s not a BMW it’s a Rover. Mick |
Fantastic wood - [strokes plastic dash] lol.

There are quite a few BMW myths. Someone I work with commented on the separate opening glass hatch on my ZT-T. He thought that must be a BMW influence as MINIs also do this.
It was something along the lines of... “Oh that’s a good feature, that must be a BMW thing!” As if like, you know nothing well though out or well engineered could possibly come from MG-Rover could it? He didn’t realise that the tourers came along after BMWs departure. He also didn’t know about the R50 MINI being a Rover development, but that’s by the bye. |
I've been told on more than one occassion that my '75 is essentially a 3 series Beemer with reworked panels and interior trim. All BMW apparantly :duh:

Much nearer a 5 Series if we are going down that route. Certainly the parts bin was raided for many items.

There may be a few factual inaccuracies in his video, but you have to applaud the guy’s enthusiasm and appreciation of the car :driving:

Check the build quality of an E46 or an E60 (similar era). The BMW build quality is far superior. My 289K E46 has no rattles, handles the road really well, runs smooth as anything, and the interior is far better than most Rovers after 100K  My E61 (E60 tourer) has done 200K, and honestly, it is immaculate, if anyone wants to have a go in a BMW and compare it to the 75 you're welcome to pop round and take them for a spin :} To be honest, I reckon going to a BMW will be the way that most people will progress from the Rovers when the time comes, they are the most similar, I wouldn't go to something like a Mercedes or an Audi, they feel much cheaper built and hard plastic inside, not really any of the soft touch plastic anywhere. |
These generalisations are all well and good but other experiences might be different. Maybe I got a Friday one or something.
For instance, I bought a new BMW Series 5 in 1987 and just couldn't understand why they were so popular. A 520i with delivery mileage only, so not a hanger-on, that felt for all the world like it had had all the pleasure and expectation engineered out of it. Bland is being too kind. The interior was hard and unyielding, the steering wheel felt like it was off a Mersey tug and, oh, the radio was good. The engine was nothing like my present R75 2002 2.5. Never again. The 75 is like a gentleman's club by comparison. The reason 'the trade' have that mindset is partly because the advent of a mechanic on electric wheels you can push around the workshop means rapid diagnosis that once took an old-timer half an hour to sort. |

E39 / E60 5 series were both produced during the time the 75 was produced. As was the E46 3 series. Which is why I mentioned those in my post. |

Exactly!
I just bought a second hand auto dip mirror, it came with a lovely plastic cover for the auto wipers. Unfortunately my car doesn't have those. I tried rimmers for the plastic cover for just the normal mirror. I was told , no longer available. I then remembered seeing BMW written on the mounting. Had a look on the bay, yep there were loads for the BMW E46. Exactly the same. Having BMW bits is OK, I mean if they had joined up with a Chinese company what would the parts quantity be like ? If its anything like the replacement parts that flood our shores it doesn't bear thinking about. Fortunately, what I have seen the Rover bodyshell would seem to have much better corrosion resistance than many a BMW i have looked at. |
I’ve just watched the video, nice to see someone appreciate the car and seem to be genuinely excited over it.
|
Yes. Only watched for a few boring minutes, then turn it off.
