OMG Autoglass are pathetic!!!!
So I was away last week when we had some torrential downpours. Checked under the V6 carpets again this morning and UGH!!!! WET!!!!! Here we go again.
As someone posted a few weeks back they had managed to get a sensor screen from Autoglass I thought I would ask them - big company bound to let me pay by credit card right? Err no - they won't take my money AT ALL. I have just been told as the screen isn't broken and I cannot claim through insurance, they don't want my money, no matter what car I have, or how I pay....funny seeing as its their windscreen fitted a couple years ago that is leaking!!! How pathetic! Looks like I will have to start looking around again! :duh: |
Dawn, national windscreens (in Northern Ireland) have the windscreens with the rain sensor in stock.
Had my silver saloon done about 4 weeks ago. If you want to claim through your insurance, you may have to have an accident with a lump hammer though..🙄 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I'm not looking to claim, but they wouldn't take my money as a cash customer. (well card, as I'm skint lol) But they wouldn't take it without it was a claim!
I just tried a local chap who said there are loads in stock, but he wants cash too. I sent National a message, as it says they're not there today. It's not like I can't use the car, so I'll see what they say tomorrow! :) Annoying when my screen is good, I'm scared to just try and remove it and rebond and it break, then not be able to get one. |
You should be able to get cash from the hole in the wall with a credit card??? ;)
|
Yes, actually I could! (although its more interest) He quoted £185, but it bothers me he's just looking at stock on a computer. Last one did that when he rang to order they said the stock was "questionable"! I'll see what prices a couple of others come up with tomorrow and then might do that, though.
I'm just so annoyed that Autoglass don't want you as a customer if it isn't an insurance job! |
Hi Dawn
I had National fit a screen for me just over a year ago. Great job, about £160 at the time & they will just fit you one, claim or not, cracked or not. Used them for the Metro Cabriolet as well. I don't hesitate in recommending them. Regards Paul |
Yes,Autoglass are a rubbish company ! I bought a new front windscreen for my Chevrolet Dayvan a while back, rang Autoglass re them installing it for me and was told they'd ring me back to let me know when they were coming. Still waiting for that call back ten years later !
Eventually got guy from a local windscreen company to fit it,mind you,he ran out of screen adhesive and I ended up finishing the job with a tube of Tigerseal. Got a stone chip in that new screen soon after and had Autoglass repair the chip through my car insurance company. Of course,a few weeks later their repair fell out, lol. Less than impressed with Autoglass ! Also had a windscreen claim via my car insurance for a cracked front screen in my American Pontiac TransAm a few years ago.Their preferred windscreen company was,you guessed it,Autoglass ! Contacted them re replacing screen only to be told i'd have to wait six weeks while they imported a new one from USA. I told them guy in Luton had them over here in stock for next day delivery but they couldn't get one from him as he wasn't on their list of suppliers ! I also told them I had a brand new screen myself for another Firebird i'm restoring so asked them if they could please fit that to my TransAm for me(so I didn't have it off the road for six weeks) and replace it later when the one from USA got here. Of course the ever helpful Autoglass wouldn't do that either |

Yes Dawn. Have to go just round the corner from the Coventry depot in the morning so could find a price for you. They have a place in Derby so you could go there or they'll come to you to fit, though not sure if they charge extra, but will ask if you like. Regards Paul |
They just rang and want £263! I think I will have to go with the other guy at £185!

Exactly, and both screens were fitted by previous owners - I think given they fitted it, they should at least sort it for payment, though! But nope the person online couldn't give a monkeys. Bad customer service, that!
|
front one I have been told will break and so windscreen places I have tried wont take one out.
mmmm, if you cant afford the screen don't buy it. Save up for it. In the mean time try silicon sealant or https://www.force4.co.uk/cpt-tolley-...iABEgIz8_D_BwE macafee2 |
A good windscreen guy will be able to remove the screen without breaking it.
|
I had a stone chip in my Astra which they repared twice before they gave in and gave me a new screen .
|
Dawn, try Bee Windscreens in Sheffield http://bee-windscreens.co.uk/ , I’m pretty sure they’ll come out to you.
Our firm has used them for the last 20 odd years and never had a problem :} I hope they can help |

Brian :D |
I wish I could get that around here Brian! I can't even find one in a scrapper locally. Looms havent had a 75 for months! The original guy quoted £80 to try but only if he could get a screen as back up- which he then said he couldn't.
|
cant see what the problem is getting a new screen, spoke to mate toady who owns a windscreen company, and the rain sensored screens are £100 incl vat to buy and his supplier has got quite a few in
|
Yes, I've gone somewhere else and the chap is coming Friday to fit one. I have no idea what was going on a few weeks ago when it all kicked off to start with. Something about the current batch having suspect curvature. maybe they proved to be okay or there is a new batch now! Hope so!
The irony is I asked some scrap yards and they wanted £120-£150 without shipping! Crazy! New one isn't costing that much more fitted! This better fix the leak, or I give up and buy some flippers...:( |

One tap with a light weight hammer or centre pop... ...get a new screen. Ken. |
Last time I bought anything at National, I got a discount via my AA membership

A few years back, over 25, I had a Renault Savanna and the bodywork around the front screen rusted, allowing water in. I decided to take a hammer to the screen and have a new one fitted after tidying up the frame. Started with a small hammer and progressed up in size. Damned things just kept bouncing off!! When the screen finally broke there was a huge crater in it because of the force needed. On other occasions I have had a screen destroyed by a small pebble. |

Might take a bit more force in this heat :D depends how determined you can be. Ken. |
