Warning triangle question
After a long discussion today with others at east Kirkby none of us know the answer to this one..
What is the purpose of the blade and O ring that fits neatly into the warning triangle??? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...706c6db4c8.jpg |
wild guess. Is it anything to do with the 3 parts of the triangle where they fit together to give some resistance to the 3 sides moving?

It will be interesting to see how many people come up with the same answer we all did :D:D:D.

Sssshhhh! Dont tell everyone. :D

Is the blade for cutting the seat belts?

The o-ring is an emergency do-it-all repair ring. Stretchy right to cover most faults - an intercooler seal, life ring for saving someone at distress at sea, rear light seal, coolant cap seal, auxiliary belt. :getmecoat:
Modern EU regs say the warning triangle should be in the car, so maybe the seat belt cutter is correct. Or is it an emergency cigar cutter for the humidor option? :D |
After googling, I think I have the answers to both questions.
Shall we prolong the guessing or do we all want to know now? :D |

We want to know! 😎😎😎👍👍👍 |
As already said; seat belt cutter is my guess. Reason:- you only use the triangle if you have a breakdown, or an accident.

OK, I'll not prolong the agony.
For the first part, according to a VW Passat forum link I found (with the exact same triangle), they said the o-ring was a grab ring to open the triangle. Not having seen one myself, could the o-ring also serve a purpose to pick up the triangle to pack away? I assume when urinating with the wet stuff it might get slippy. There is a detent for your finger so could be plausible? I think the "blade" is the metal side (or magnet?) for a magnetic closure on the triangle, to lock the 3 sides into place? Again, I have not seen one in the flesh. |
Sound plausible.. I shall investigate later!

Ummm........I would have guessed they were something to do with replacing head gaskets by the roadside. :getmecoat:

The O ring does not look removable (at least not without some form of damage), so along with it being a 'handle'/pull of some sort, I would add a question of why it is made of a rubber O ring? My suggested answer to that, it being made of rubber and not plastic or metal (like a key ring) would be to reduce vibration noise, and wear. Since it is likely to remain in place for long periods of time, vibration could cause it to damage the plastic of the triangle. Cost likely comes into it as well, as it will likely be cheaper than a metal key ring.

Well.. it’s definitely a pull ring as suggested, and upon closer inspection, the blade is indeed a reinforcing spar.
I can now stop thinking about the puzzle, thanks for all your answers. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c0d24cec28.jpg |
