Petrol Prices

With the collapse in demand for fuel, this evening i filled the 190 up with petrol at Morrisons in Stone, Staffs at 99.7p per litre. When was the last time it was below a £1.

Then again when i had my first car in August 1973 petrol was about 33p per gallon with beer at 11p per pint. Good night out on a £1.

Must be getting old as going to part time working this Summer!

In the early 70s, between leaving school and being old enough to join the RAF, I worked at a garage both on the forecourt and in the tyre bay. This was long before self service and customers used to come in and ask for a pound's worth of petrol which got them three and a bit gallons! First pint of bitter I ever bought (at the tender age of 14 - don't tell anyone) cost me the princely sum of one and tenpence in pre-decimal currency.

Brings back memories, I started work in 1969 at Smiths Industries in Bishop's cleeve as an apprentice. First wage was £6 2s 2d plus 15 shillings lodging allowance. I rode a Triumph tiger cub, I used to fill it every friday at the 477 garage in Alstone lane, about 2.5 gallons of 4 star, ten number 6 fags and a box of matches for £1. First pint at Smith's clubhouse was 1s 9d. ( 8p today)
From a now bad memory the petrol was just under 7 shillings a gallon (35p today)
Relatively petrol is much cheaper now.

It was 99.9 a litre for petrol around 6 or 7 years ago. I'm not sure now what the circumstances were, but it was good while it lasted.

BP & Esso by us are still sticking to the customer, £1.17 & £1.19 you can add another 12p to that if you use their best diesel.

Didn't need any on my trip to the Supermarket today, but noted it was still up at £1.09 per litre at the Shell station I use.

My first gallon of petrol (in my motorcycle) cost me 4 shillings and tenpence. I added two shots of redex to make a round five bob! (25 new pence) Ahhh! Those were the days! :D I have since lost all my hair!

Esso near me yesterday was 111.9/ltr unleaded, and 134.9 for supreme. Didn’t check diesel, as I was only filling the JZR (max 10 ltrs)

Tesco near me, 99.9, diesel 105

I keep both cars up to the brim at these prices
