Webasto in a petrol car?
 

An unusual car for sale, very cheap, in Norway, a petrol Rover 75. What is unusual is that the ad. mentions a Webasto heater with remote. Never heard of one before and the testing station records the car as a petrol not a diesel, lots of ABS faults. Apparently imported into Norway in 2004 but don’t know where from. VIN SARRJZLKYYM115828 was going to check the .info site but it’s still down.

I suppose it could be a modern Webasto electric heater but without any pictures of the engine bay it’s a guess. Not intending to buy, just curious about the Webasto as I associate the name with diesels.

Somewhere in the man cave, I have a Webasto heater that came off a MGB.
It is quite old and requires to be plugged into the mains.

It looks like the up to date petrol versions are similar, but also come with remote control and timer options like the eThermo Top-eco.

Well the translation below is interesting, never seen a Websato with handlebars before or bought a car from an adult healthy lubricant , but I do know that Webasto make petrol heaters alhough never known one fitted to a 75 before unless its an export option due to the cold temperature of the country ?

"Selling the car as a shared car / repair object, as I have already bought a new car and my knowledge is lacking. Brake straps for the handbrake and dust cuffs are purchased and available. Some light bulbs need to be changed to orange in the turn signal on the sides.
The winter tires are nice but old, the left front tire therefore says a little air out of, so had to refill a little at intervals of a few weeks this year. Beauty flaws are a bit here and there, but a relatively whole and nice car. Has only one key, but the barcode for coding a new key is in the binder. The car has a webasto with remote control and handlebars, but I have not familiarized myself with this.
The big problem that made the EU approval has now expired is that the ABS according to the troubleshooting has an "unlikely" signal from the Right front tire and the Left rear. I have no idea what this is due to, I have tried to change the sensors without it helping. Therefore, I prefer to sell the car cheaply to someone who has time to investigate this, instead of letting the workshop take it. After all, they would not give any clue as to what this would cost to troubleshoot point by point. Due to this, the speedometer does not show the speed.
The car has a low.km condition and has never experienced that it did not start, regardless of temperature. I bought the car from an adult healthy lubricant who was picky about the car. Comes with a driver's side window control and engine fan, which he thought should be replaced. But I never saw the need for it. The fuel gauge, on the other hand, behaves strangely, it is no longer "slow" which makes it show big differences in whether you turn a road or another, instead of smoothing this out.

Thanks for the replies. Ordinary electric heaters are commonplace I’ve got a Defa fitted to mine, plug into the mains with a timer and the engine & cabin are warmed, no ice and easy starts. Having checked the Webasto website I know of the electric variant but think that would be odd too as our main suppliers up here are either Defa or Calix. Only time I hear of a Webasto is on diesels, guess we’ll never know, but if someone has the early build data perhaps they can tell us where the car was originally exported.

Our friends at Google do wonderful things with translations, luckily Norwegian and Swedish are quite similar so I get just about everything but occasionally can’t for the life of me figure out the Norwegian. Bloke was talking about his 75 and used the word Panser - ‘allo ‘allo I thought but nope, it’s their word for bonnet!

All of my SD1s had engine block heaters, pretty standard here whenever you buy a car to fit an electrical heater if it hasn't already got one. Couldn't imagine going through a winter without one, that plus a cabin heater. But 3kw sounds a lot for my fuses to handle think mine were something like 150w, and I generally have them plugged in for an hour before it's warm enough to defrost the car. Still got a SD1 block heater in a drawer somewhere.

Hate unsolved cases so here's the conclusion: received a picture today from Norway, from the new owner of the car in question.

It has a fuel burning heater, a Webasto, nothing special you might think but this one burns petrol.

Jealous of the diesel owners in winter.
