Kv6 head gasket? :(

Good evening gentlemen, I think I have a big problem.
I found that my coolant level was going down at least a litre a week.
But no visible leaks at all.

Tonight I did the level again.
I looked at the oil cap word, and there I was very afraid: there was a lot of mayonnaise and also inside.
I’m attaching some pictures.

Yet the car does not overheat. I constantly look at the engine temperature.
And the vehicle does not smoke and behaves properly.

I recently had an oil change (1 month ) and the cap was clean.
I also changed the thermostat and the temperature is now 90°.

What do you think? Did I make a mistake when reassembling the thermostat?
How does the coolant get into the engine oil?

Thanks for your help.

Are you doing lots of short journeys?

Are your breathers in the cam covers clear?

The head gaskets rarely go on the KV6, worth checking other things first.

Good evening, thank you for your answer.
At the moment, I do not drive very much with the 75 .
I've changed breather pipes a few months ago.

I drive once a week, and I do small trips, and a bit of highway.
The car never overheated.

But this mayo worries me a lot, and I add more than a liter of coolant a week.

A i litre of coolant loss per week is rather a lot and must be going somewhere. Be sure you aren't over-filling the header tank! Coolant should be at base of fins when cold. If there's definitely no external signs of 1 litre per week leakqage then you must check the engine oil for coolant/water. Is the oil level obviously going up (dip stick)? If so there's the answer. It could be leaking into the oil at the oil cooler. That's much more common than head gasket leakage.
Get a sample of the sump oil and do a crackle test for water. Place 1-2ml of sump oil on a kitchen foil 'dish' and heat it with a cigarette ligher flame. If it sputters and crackles there's water present.

Ibwill check the oil level tomorrow. But I always had trouble to check level on the kv6 (i know the procedure to check the level).

My engine oil change is recent.
Before that, no mayonnaise on the cap.

I will try to look at that tomorrow.
But if the head gasket failed , I could not fix it, I changed a lot of things on the v6 recently , I would sell it for parts ( they are rare here in France).

As suggested, check the oil cooler before anything else. They rot inside and the oil chamber mixes with the water chamber. They are not much money and are not really a hard job to do. You will then need to do an oil change and coolant change.

I also wanted to mention that I changed the inlet manifold gasket when the thermostat was replaced.
Can be leaking it? Before I had no mayonnaise and no significant loss of coolant (no overheating).

How do I check the oil cooler?
Thanks you.

Possibly, but only if you didn't follow the tightening order and torque setting or it was otherwise fitted without care.

Your car is from the year 2000 so I'm expecting you to have the original type in the radiator return flow. In this case, try removing the hose on the cooler outlet side. The contents of the radiator will then flow through the cooler so, if it has broken down, I would expect to see engine oil drawn out with it.

However, if your mayonnaise is limited to underneath the oil filler cap, which seems to be the case from what you've said, then follow the advice initially given by Trikey, i.e. use the car more and make sure the engine gets hot for more than two minutes! :D
