Battery chargers
 

I have seen a few adverts for battery chargers that claim to recover batteries from sulphation et al.

Is this just advertising hype ?
My experience says yes, but ....

Its possible with mild sulphation by pulsing the charging current, sometimes it works, sometimes not. When batteries had clear containers you could see the build up and separation of the plates to determine if it could be saved.

Any articles to support your statement please ?

I have no articles but I agree with PhilT4. This idea is nothing new.

PS. All batteries sulphate up as they discharge--:eek:--It's how they work.--:D

You can't tell by looking if the plates can be saved or not.

Ctek battery charges can de-sulphate if not too bad.

I have one I use for my classic Mini.
Expensive to buy, but has a 5 year warranty.
They charge AGM batteries as well as Calcium / Calcium batteries, not just your normal lead acid type. I think it might do Gell as well, but dont hold me to that.

Your first sentence.--Actually they all do that.

However if they are too bad none of them will do it.---;)

I tried a pulse repair charger (Foxsur FBC1205D) with one BMW battery, which was registering ~6V. It appeared to recover the battery successfully to 12.8V. But I have not tried starting a car with it.
I tried it with my R75T 096 70Ah ECP Lion battery. It seemed to make no noticeable improvement to the battery from it's normal (12.2V, nearly dead, but just hanging on in winter) state.

So the results are inconclusive.
