2.5 v6 Automatic gearbox issue

Hi everyone,
Last morning I started my 75 and the moment I put it in drive the was bang and jerk i didn't think much of it though, I went to drive off and the car would bang and jerk at the gear changes that got me really worried but there was no slip I restarted the car and the gearbox was smooth as silk for the rest of the day. Then today I went to drive off again it all seemed fine but just a few meters from house the car would have small but noticable bang in the first gear change and smooth on all the rest. The car has 106k miles and it had a fluid change a couple of year ago and has done only around 6-7k mile since. Any ideas ?
Regards,
Thanos

Sounds like a sticky solenoid maybe?

I had a Mk2 Granada that used to do this - it had an ATF leak from the sump gasket and would bang once the fluid was low.

Start with the basics. Check for fluid leaks and check fluid level.

I had a look underneath I couldn't see anything sipping out and the fact that restarting the car yesterday fixed the issue I'm thinking its something of an electronic nature. I guess I'll see how it goes because I don't fancy taking the car apart since it's my daily driver could a sticky solenoid cause further damage though ? Edit: now the car banged in reverse as well could it be some sort of mount or something gone loose? There was a clank and jerk as well

The car in way back from work was pretty much undrivable I guess itll have to be towed to a mechanic at this point it bang through all the gears and it jerks on down shifts.

I would check the battery condition, low volts, or a bad earth can do this.

I believe this is a classic symptom of the 2/4 brake solenoid failure, this is easily checked by carrying out a resistance test with a multimeter on the gearbox plug. Do a search on here to find the diagram and values.

If it does indeed prove to be faulty I think DMGRS carries these in stock and it is replaced without removing the gearbox.

Thanks for all your replies, I've got my parts 75 so I could potentially take the parts from it

Quick update Took it to my mgr expert today and we found a perished engine mount and it is indeed a 2 4 solenoid. None of the mg rover garages want to get involved with it it and the transmission shops quote silly money so I guess I'll have to tackle it myself which I didn't really want to
