I got the correct oil for Chrislloydies auto box (well arranged it) for £30 for a five ltr bottle (trade) from X parts in Bedford if anyones interested!!

I thought it a reasonable result given they are the nearest stockest!!

If anybody wants it I can go out to the garage for the part number?

Andy

It's for 5 x 1 litre, excluding VAT & delivery. For those of us who don't live near a branch of Fleet Factors, and are not VAT registered as littleun appears to be, the total price is £40.

The next biggest sized container is 20 litres.

Simon.

I didn't say it wasn't available in 5 litre containers, just that Fleet Factors don't sell that size. It was that retailer about which crofts was specifically asking.

Hi Beinet1, I had the same problem as yours slipping in 3rd and 4th gear and losing drive, the only way I could get home was locked in 3rd gear, I took in to a auto gearbox specialist and he said complete gearbox strip as there could be metal particles swiming around the gearbox, I chose to get a low mileage secondhand box for 350 pounds, the sad point was the 400 pounds to get it fitted, around 10 hours labour, I could have stripped the gearbox in situ to check the reverse piston myself, but if I would have fitted maybe a cracked reverse piston, then there could have been more internal problems after rebuild increasing the cost more, my 75 is running great now, Cheers Derek (NZ)

Branches

Thanks. Did think to Google them. Appears they are well represented in the Midlands & North. None down my neck of the woods so delivery will probably kill any advantage.
According to their price list 7045E is £4.62/£5.54 incl VAT per 1 litre (£27.70 for 5x1litre) Still a good price if near a branch.
No 5litre and 20litre £58.82/£70.58 incl so £3.53/£4.23 incl per 1 litre ie £21.17 incl per 5 litres. Probably a good price for Lates, Jules etc

I see they have a branch in Middlewich, just where Rugby Rovers is. I will be going up to RR around the end of the year for some bumpers and it would be worth bring a load down south and use the meets to distribute it.

Another option is to do a bulk order as the maximum delivery is £60 and distribute it via various meets.

"... could be ..." Any evidence for this speculation? Err ... no.
When I repaired the automatic gearbox in my wife's car I did find metal fragments, because a gear wheel had broken up. I replaced the gear, had the box cleaned (as you would for any rebuild) and it was fine. There were no other problems at all, despite the metal particles.

This sort of talk is designed to persuade the customer to accept a reconditioned unit which, to be fair, can be cheaper and certainly quicker than finding a fault on an unfamiliar gearbox. That solution often appeals to the customer too, but it doesn't make sense if you are on a tight budget and want to do the work yourself.

 Sorry Derek, I don't understand. If you fitted a cracked reverse piston? Why would you do that?

Hi all,

I was going to measure the solenoids today, but the autobox connectors I found rigth behind the fusebox did not look like the one in the schematic I found on one of the other threads here. Am I looking at the wrong connector or are there different types of these??

P.S.
