New Rover in the family.

My son bought his first car yesterday, his choice - a 2000 Rover 25 1.4 (yes I know it’s not a 75 but it’s still a Rover).
Just over 54,000 from new with full service history, large file with all bills and receipts and in generally very good condition, although it does need a little attention.
The car appears well equipped with electric front windows, air conditioning, C.D. Multichanger (factory fitted under the passenger seat) and token wooden trim inside.
The engine and bay look as new, the space saver has never been used and the toolkit is still in its wrapper.
Bad bits are all four tyres need replacing (virtually no wear but quite heavy cracks all over the carcasses) most of the high level brake light bulbs inoperative, clock/radio display missing pixels, wiper blades past their best and a previous poor repair to the rear of the o/s sill needs doing properly (but is a very small repair).
We spent quite some time cleaning it today and it comes up quite nicely, photos of it after cleaning the bodywork, but before sorting all the ‘grey’ plastic trims.
I have made a list of things to sort out and will have them done by the time he’s old enough to drive in August (plan is for it on the road and ready so he can drive it on the road on his birthday).
Had a little drive about in it today and it’s not a bad little thing!

What a sensible purchase - much better then a Corsa or Fiesta. Takes me back to my early cars - learnt to drive in my Father's Austin A99 Westminster, and my first car was a Vauxhall Cresta (3.3 litre) - Insurance must have been cheaper in those days!

My first car was a 100E Popular, second car a Mk 2 Consul 375, took my test in an early Talbot Horizon!
Can't remember now what my insurance cost was for the 100E back then, but my son's best quote (for when he has passed his test) is just over £1,600 - although it's only £289 as a learner with the same company.

First car I had was a 2003 25, but it was a base model.

Still a fun car to drive though, and quite a comfy one too after I added the interior from a GTi. :}

I think the Rover 25 is a damn good car and still a lot about.

Good buy for a first car, do keep an eye on coolant level as these do can be trouble.

The Rover 25 1.4 is a powerful first car which will not help with the insurance.

Our 1.2 86BHP Corsa always costs more to insure than the 75 CDT and my 2.5 V6 Omega Estate. The Omega is always the cheapest to insure.

I played it crafty. 4 years no claims bonus on provisional insurance which was then carried over when I eventually became a full licence holder.

Best part about it was it's perfectly legal! :D

A fantastic car, a 25 saved mine and my wifes life when we were in a very bad smash (my fault!) on our 2nd date.
