Compression test with everything unplugged - bad Idea ?
At present I have removed the camshaft covers on my v6 to clean the breathers . With everything out of the way this seems a great time to carry out a compression test on all 6 cylinders . But , will turning over the engine with all sorts of electronics unconnected create all manner of fault codes , or even worse ? I have got a fault code reader so can clear them :shrug:

Chris,
If it ain't broke, don't fix it! :D Simon |

But it's soooooo tempting ……………….I suppose I could wait until the manifold is back on and everything reconnected:shrug: It's just that access to the rear plugs is so good with the manifold out of the way . |
I agree with Simon on this, unless you suspect a problem leave well alone.

How about cranking the engine without the ignition on, power the starter /solenoid separately.

I'd make sure the cam covers are back on before turning over the engine - unless you want a liberal coating of engine oil everywhere...

Discretion was the better part of valour this time ! I gave the compression check a miss , just changed the spark plugs , and the cam covers are back on with clean filters and clean pipes :} Just got to put the manifold back on tomorrow and see how she is :}

All done , and test -driven ok :}
No sign of smoke at present :} Very glad I took some photos before removing the manifold ; routing that maze of pipes on the v6 was a bit of a pain when refitting . The vacuum pipe for the cruise control had me puzzled for a bit , I 'd tucked it away on the other side of the engine :duh: |
