Sky replace tool in 2021 Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop has just updated with a host of new tools.
I will play with a few of them and share a few quick results on here . One of the new updates is a simple way to replace sky in an image. The tool comes with some pre loaded skies but you can use your own as I have here. This is a photo from about five years ago at the Clacton Air Show. Washed out sky made for a rather bland image... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...620d6bdf_h.jpgTyphoon Original image by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr This sky I took yesterday late afternoon with my iPhone outside the front door... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...794066de_h.jpgSky from yesterday outside front door by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr Using the Sky replace tool and a bit of dodging and burning (two minute quick edit) got me to this result... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f152bb43_h.jpgTyphoon by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr A very useful tool if you find yourself with the shot you want but a sky that isn't playing ball. I will play more with the tool but using higher quality original images to see what can be achieved :} |
Nice!! I'm going to have to have a play with that :}. I subscribe to Photoshop, so should get the upgrade. Where would I find the new tool?

Once you’ve done the Creative Cloud update it’s just in the edits drop down under ‘Replace Sky’ |
Thanks Jeff :}.
Just checked my pc and it seems it hasn't been updating, so just re-installed Adobe Creative Cloud and it's now doing its thing :}. Cliff |
Whilst you're waiting for your update:}
This was taken at the same Clacton Airshow in 2015. It was the last year the Vulcan flew. Was a shame the sky was so bland so a bit of fun to liven it up......And I was only saying the other day....... I don't do compositing :duh::D:getmecoat: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3cea40ca_h.jpgVulcan Bomber by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr Original... https://live.staticflickr.com/1596/2...7eded25e_h.jpgIMG_0708 by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr |
An amazing transformation Jeff. Surprising just how much impact the new sky makes, without distracting from the plane :}.

It has indeed :D.
A really useful tool, and so easy to use. I used to do sky replacement using a programme "Landscape pro", but this is far simpler and gives better results :}. A very quick play Before: https://live.staticflickr.com/680/31...df8b52f0_c.jpg After: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...841fe2d8_c.jpg So glad you mentioned this, I would have been unaware of the update without your post :} Cliff |

If you go into the filters tab. Have a play with the new Nueral Filters ;) |
Hi Jeff,
I saw this thread the other day, so decided I really needed to have a play. I went to Japan in 2017, which is what I bought my first DSLR for... I didn't know how to use it so as a result, all photos pretty much were taken in auto mode... Skies came out bleached white and the photos were for the most part, horrendous! One place I went was Kegon falls. The waterfall was frozen and was one of the best places I went to. Sadly all photos were horrific and unusable... Until now! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f188cc0f_z.jpgKegon Falls, Japan... by Philip Davies, on Flickr |
