Fit a land rover PRT from Rimmer Bros' I tried some other 'oem' ones when I had my 1.8t, finally the PRT from Rimmers sorted out all the cooing issues.

Accept no substitute as they say!

It sounds like a dicky PRT issue. I 've seen at least one example where some rubber coating had lifted from the valve and wedged it open. In that situation, warmup is delayed and running temperature lower. You should check the running temperature using the Trip Screen Diagnostic method to see what's happening. The 1.8T normally runs around 90°C.

There's usually a reason why rubber delaminates from a thermostat. The typical cause is oil contamination. Has your engine ever suffered HGF?

Yes previous owner engine gearbox was caked in old oil so sttripped it down cleaned it all up couple of the pipes was gone from oil contamination sorted them out and new prt with a good coolant flush will see how it goes
