Complete coolant hose replacement
On the basis, the hoses in my car are now nearly 20, I plan to replace all coolant hoses sometime this year.
Can anyone confirm the list below is the complete set? As far as I can determine it is, but thought I'd check. Car is a V6, 2.5 litre, auto. VIN: SARRJZLLM2D219757 PEP000200 Engine to oil cooler (ass'y) PCH119270 Heater hose in/out PCH119290 Hose, radiator to pipe PCH119280 Hose, engine to oil cooler PCH119250 Heater hose in/out PEH101210 Cooling system hose PCH119260 Hose, heater outlet to thermostat PCH119301 Hose, engine to radiator PCH119242 Hose, engine to radiator Thanks, John |
Friend decided to do the same with his SD1 Vitesse (V8), but the coolant hoses supplied (probably Rimmer’s) were inferior to the originals and one heater hose actually split within a very short time. Had a look at the new hose, no reinforcement (strands of woven fiber), still had the old hoses up in my attic which were reinforced, and refitted the old hoses. Lots of irritation and money wasted. Just make sure the new hoses are not remanufactured.
Good luck |

£449 :eek::eek: plus postage ! .....for some rubber hoses ? Must be a much better deal out there , isn't there ? |
A thorough inspection of your hoses (light and a small mirror will help) should reveal any bulging, softening or splits. If it aint broke, don't fix it. We used to run a "preventative maintenance" system on our fleet in the 70's to 90's with good effect (very few breakdowns) but with a lot of inferior replacement parts these days, I would stick with what you have until it becomes obvious that you have a problem.
Hoses usually give some warning of impending doom and a cloud of steam should tell you to switch off and park up anyway before anything major would be damaged!;) |

Take your time about wanting to replace your hoses. As said above,, later hoses if not inspected before you buy them can be worse than those already on the car. A bit like drop links rubbish even by well known producers.

I keep a roll of Ever Build Silweld in the car, https://www.everbuild.co.uk/product/silweld/
I've used it on sanitary ware and it's worked well. Not cheap but if it gets you out of trouble.... JohnnyBG |
