Tyre sizes for V6

Hi all - my first post! :) I feel a bit dumb asking this, but here goes...

I've owned my Y-reg 2.5 Conny auto with 47k for nearly a week now and have a burning question re correct tyre sizes. The handbook and original sales brochure indicate I should have 205 section but the car has had replacement Good Year Eagle NCT 195's fitted. The profile is correct however at 65. The full-sized spare, which appears to be unused, is a 195 Good Year Eagle NCT. But why are they all 195's when they're supposed to be 205s?! The 195's were supposed to be used on the 1.8 with steel wheels only I believe? The wheels are the 15inch Crowns.

As I'm a purist, I'd like the correct sizes, but is it actually OK to run this model on 195's and on these particular wheels? Anyone else doing it? I'd be grateful for your thoughts. Thanks!

First welcome to the club :)

Believe the 75 was designed to run on 205/65/15 tyres but after some months production the supplied tyres were changed as a cost cutting exercise to 195/65/15. So both sizes are suitable for the Crown wheels and the car.

Having said that I have found that my conn se auto saloon feels a lot better on the 205s.

The 205s are a little more expensive though.

Hello Graham,

There's nothing wrong with your set-up. 2002 sales brochure ref. 5855/A lists the Connoisseur and SE with crown wheels as supplied ex-factory with 195/65 R15.

Simon.

Many thanks indeed for your responses. I am reassured - especially as I'd already ordered replacement 195's (Uniroyals). I will now go ahead and have them fitted with confidence! :}

Unless superman can shove the jet stream from Northern France back to where it should be - up near Iceland, then our winters are going to be much harder, and you will be very glad you have the 195's on your car... :}

You're very well informed James. Can you spread the word to all those politicians who keep telling us it's our fault (and therefore taxing us more)? :D

Simon.
