New Camera
Just ordered a pre owned Canon EOS 1 DX.
It is a low mileage model of 24,000 actuations and comes complete with a 12 month warranty. My EOS 1D mk4 will become my back up body and go into semi retirement as a very faithful servant:bowdown: Looking forward to exploring full frame photography, seeing how much better the low light cabablities and focus tracking are from my previous generation version. Hope to share some images from the new body with you guys and gals soon:} |
Looking forward to seeing how the 1dx performs

It will be in my hands though..........so don't expect miracles :D:D:D |
In 2014 canon brought some jessops employees to Woburn safari park yo try out the 1dx the 5d mk3 and.the full range of lenses. After us, they were being loaned to photographers covering the Olympics.
Mine locked up, but apparently that was expected as they were pre production models. At the time they allowed us to keep the supplied cards on the condition we didn't publish the images (as the meta data could identify the model - although mine showed a code name). Imagine a 1d mk3 mixed with the speed of a 1ds mk3 and that's what the 1dx is like. Even up to 3200 images were as clean as any iso 200 I have taken! I don't think I have any images on this phone to share unfortunately but will try to hunt them put when I get home. You won't be disappointed Jeff :D Sent from my SM-A600FN using Tapatalk |
You can do so much more with the Raw files of a full frame image as I’m sure you know.
My 5D MkII has done a mega 248,000 clicks and has no real signs of weakness, still a very capable unit. |

Only shooting pre owned cars but will give me a feel for it. There isn't much different in the hand from my 1D mk4 except for the delete button having moved and the additional joystick and front 'user' selectable buttons. Spent last night going through the menus and setting the camera to my preferences. There is a lot of ways to customise the focusing and focus tracking on the camera. I'll need to explore those further when shooting:} |

I think the camera and I are in for a good relationship. It feels very familiar in the hand with only minor changes to a few buttons and the menu system. That should help when swapping from one body to the other in me not getting brain freeze when looking to change anything on the fly. Apart from the commercial photography this week, I'm also shooting some FA youth football and will be at the Cat rescue as well. Hopefully will do another portrait shoot soon which should really give me a chance to see the improvements:} |
Took the new camera out to work today.
Very impressed so far, even if only pre owned car shots:} Taken with my trusty old 24-105L lens attatched. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7905/...222045b3_b.jpgEY7P8436 by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7923/...2f8782dc_b.jpgEY7P8473 by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7879/...fa7517d7_b.jpgEY7P8460 by Jeff Cranwell, on Flickr |
