Did you open the garage door before you reversed out? :D But seriously, the big clunk could just be the handbrake sticking on (rust formed between shoes and drum inside the drum/disc) and parking sensors could be related to a problem with the reverse light switch. Do the reversing lights work with the ignition on (engine not started though, obviously) and reverse gear selected. Sometimes they stick off and repeated use (in and out of gear) may bring it back (or remove, clean and replace switch/wiring on gearbox).;) The switch is set in a certain position/adjustment to work correctly.

D,oh, forgot the doors were closed, not quite that senile yet, although to listen to her indoors thats a false statement lol. thanks for the advice I guess its the months hosting mouse meetings that are the cause. I will check out what you advise, thanks.

its simple when you know how, tried what roverbarmy suggested and of course no reversing lamps so must be the gearbox switch !!!!! hooray more time on my creaking knees to access the brute. seriously though cheers mate.

Do try the in and out of gear route first (perhaps with a spray of WD40 or similar on the gearbox switch). It may just start working on its own and save you a lot of bother.;) Also on and off with the wiring connector and a wire brush?

It’s a ten min job to swap out the reversing switch, whip off the passenger front wheel and access is easy.

Park brake

Always try to leave hand take off if parking up for any length of time. Chock the wheels if necessary. Aircraft never park up with their park brakes on. The heat caused by slowing on landing could weld the linings and your Squeezy Jet to Majorca would be delayed whilst they changed the brakes. Also set of brake linings for a jet easily run to many thousands ££££

OH Trikey if only, it takes me longer than that to find where I put the car keys. I have always left the handbrake off just pulled it on/off a couple of times each week as I charged the battery. new shoes and compensator fitted 50 miles ago prior to lockdown. Spent a couple of hours getting the brute onto axle stands and struggling with rusty wheel arch liner screws. Trikey you must have double jointed arms etc I can just about touch the switch. thanks all for your assistance i,ll get there in the end ( defo wish I had kept the M O oxford traveller or the TR4A , a hammer and bailing wire sorted most of their probs. )

Tr4a

Hi Euro
You and I must have similar taste in cars. I had a 4a for 43 years. Now have a ZT-T KV6
Apart from changing a coil pack I have done nothing to the MG. And yes it was no3 coil pack and I wear the scars on my forearm like badges of honour.
