On the 5th April 2005 three Rover 75 Contemporary SE tourers were built and painted Trophy Yellow. The first car went down the line at 10:23.24 the second at 10:27.54 and the last at 12:46.43. All three cars were a special build and built to be donated to the company’s designated charity. Two days later the company would run out of parts and the day after MG Rover went into administration. Total closure followed on 15/4/05. Out of these three cars two went on to be donated to the Warwickshire Northamptonshire air ambulance service as rapid response vehicles, Trophy Yellow matched the colour of the helicopter. Due to the administrators owning MG Rover the Phoenix Four were no longer allowed to donate the cars and therefore bought two of the cars. These were then donated by John Towers in person. BX04 XCE now B9HJM was the last of the three to be built but the first to be registered, alongside BX04 XCF, making BX04 XCE the last ‘sold’ Rover 75 tourer built to leave Longbridge before closure and the last MGR to be handed over in person by John Towers.

I like these stories imparting a bit of MG Rover and Longbridge history.
Our cars were built in the same day too. Mine came off the line at 12 minutes past 11 on the 5th April. Happy 15th to our cars! |
Yep belated happy birthday to your car Mark, mine is celebrating its birthday outside the house I presume like yours
XCE & XCF are special cars, I’d have bought mine a present but....I’m staying indoors and following the governments advice Mick |
Yeah sitting outside mate it’s now (was) my current daily driver so enjoying it again. Refitted some interior tailgate trims yesterday and still deciding wether to fit the satnav unit as the loom connectors look a bit green and my electrical cleaner is at work....

How do you know when your cars rolled off the line!?

I've done a bit of digging / spoke to a few old friends etc and I've worked out that at precisely that time I was no doubt having a cup of tea and a fag. Thanks again 👍 |
