Power steering fluid leak

On Friday morning my daughter told me that the Rover was making strange noises on Thursday when Mrs Andy was driving, it sounded like a 'bus'.
On Friday evening Mrs Andy told me the same thing, after driving it for another day, that it was making noises when slowly manoeuvring.

I ventured out this morning after last nights Baltic storm to have a look.
The power steering fluid tank was virtually empty, the mesh covering the top fluid hose was soaked and I cut it back to investigate. I found a little seep hole, there was also some seepage from where the engine cover had rubbed the hose, but this was the lesser of the leaks.

I suppose the rubber is perishing, after all it is 18 years old on Thursday 2nd ;)

I've put a video here on YouTube.

Anyone had this before?

I looked it up on Rimmers, but part 5 the replacement, is not available. Any ideas?

Any decent hydraulic hose supplier would probably be able to make you something up to match. I used to get pipes made up for commercials at a fraction of the vehicle manufacturers price. Take your pipe as a sample.;)

Hi Andy
I have seen this a few times at the Nano meets but it as not been holes as yours is, the hose rubs on the engine cover and on a bolt the opposite side, you will to get another hose from a donna car or scrap car, once you have fitted the new hose put some conduit over the hose where it rubs.

The power steering can also rub on the compressor pulley, so also wise to tie that back when you can if you have not done so already.

On Saturday I took my leaking high pressure hose to a local pressure line & hose specialist to be re-made.

I also took the other two low pressure hoses to see if they could be done too, however they couldn't guarantee that they could remove the plastic push fit connectors that go onto the cooler.

Seeing as they weren't leaking yet I decided just to refit them, and hope they last a while longer.

I've refitted low pressure line but can't remember which way round they go onto the steering rack. I have a feeling the that pipe no.6 goes onto the upper union position and the high pressure line no.5 fits below it as viewed from under the car. I've searched here for a photo but can't see any, foolishly I forgot to take one on Saturday as I was rushing to get it done.......:twonk:

I'm currently waiting for a call to say my hose is ready to collect.

Anybody have a photo or remember which way they go, threads seem to be identical.
Thanks

Yes it does many thanks & merry Christmas.
The high pressure line is bolted to the lower position, the low pressure line is above it.
