Pre 75/ZT Rovers?
My dream car for years was a 75 without knowing much about Rovers and their history. Now that I've reached these lofty golden heights of ownership, I've naturally grown more interested in Rovers in general. I've been a passenger in a 25 aswell as a Knightsbridge but that's my only other experience of Rovers.
I would love to have a P6 but I don't think that will ever happen :D What Rovers have you owned and which did you love or hate? You see the occasional adverts for these older Rovers but they are less common these days. |
I've owned one or two .. see sig :) Loved and hated them all at various times in my ownership. Thinking the latest is probably a keeper

Pre 75/ZT Rovers?
Not owned one but I’d love to have a rover 800 fastback and a 220 coupe in the future.
My dad has a facelift 25 in ‘sonic blue’ from new with 170K miles on it which is very nice. He just had it resprayed. Also a low mileage 214Sli. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I had a 1961 100 p4 a lovely car, a 1974 2200 p6 tc which was also very well engineered and comfortable but a complete rust bucket at only 9 years old bought as such at 200£ and scrapped after a year with low mileage. Finally a 1964 3 litre mk 2 New Zealand new with low mileage and original paint sold when left NZ 2013 another lovely car with fantastic over engineering in every department.

Didn't really think about it before but your post made me think about my past cars.
Rover 214sli red Rover 820si white Rover 820si black Rover maestro silver Mg montego blue Rover sterling green Rover maestro cream Rover 400 red Mg zt blue. I'm thinking I might of been a fan of rover/mg without realising it Stan Ps forgot the silver 827 which got written off after 2 days. |

Obviously got a fair few fans of the Rover marque on here
I think Hubnut makes for questionable viewing at best but his channel has featured a fair few Rovers and I felt rather jealous when he featured this one: https://youtu.be/PnNNF750CkM |
Rover SD1 V8S (still owned)
Rover 800, 820 and 827SLi Rover 416SLi (still owned) Rover 45 Spirit Limited Edition (still owned) Rover Montego 2.0 Gti (many- wished I had kept one) and of course currently 3x 75s and 2x ZTs. |
Sd1 2300
800 Sterling 827 Sterling Coupe ( for 13 years) 75 1.8 Classic in Starlight Silver 75 CDTI Club Auto in Copperleaf. Around 30 years in all. Sadly a 3 year gap when a Renault Kangoo was briefly used. Less said the better, Rover again as soon as I could. There's no comparison. |
I grew up with Austins and Triumphs in the family (my mother had a Triumph Herald convertible for 38 years) and I had a Maestro and a Montego 2.0Si. My first Rover was an early G-regn 216GSi which was a very good car and I did 120,000 miles in it. That was followed by a 620i which also did about 120,000 miles and was ultra reliable, the only non routine work required was a new electric window motor after my son was sick over it. I had a couple of 216 cabriolets which were OK but nothing special.
The only other pre 75 I owned was a 45 turbo diesel which was probably the fastest car I have owned (and I have owned two Morgan 4/4s) but that was because it was lightly built. I would not swap my 75 (owned the latest one for 15 years) but the 620i was also a joy to drive. |
