Recommend a replacement
Hi,
I'm looking at some replacement seat bolt as of the 8 holding the seats 2 have knackered heads. I had to hammer a M9 Ribe onto them to remove them as they became rounded. Can anyone recommend a replacement; Should I go stainless and go for allen headed bolts over the Ribe/Torx? dont think these countersunk are suitable... What about http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2511542532...4.m1423.l2649? |

The dome bolts look alright may look better if they were black. Would be difficult to remove if they seize up. Maybe a dab of grease on threads when fitting.....

Are you referring to the black bolts which hold the seat assembly to the car body?
You cannot go replacing these with just any bolt, especially with stainless steel ones, which aren't even as strong as standard tensile bolts. They are high-tensile bolts which take a serious load in the event of an accident and stop you flying out with the windscreen whilst still sitting in your seat. Please don't get replacing safety critical parts with just any old bolt. Edit: Also, the original bolts are Torx head, not Ribe, as is written all over the instructions from the MG-Rover workshop manual. Probably why the heads are damaged! http://www.nbsoft.co.uk/roverseatbolts.jpg |

Genuine Rover seat bolts are ment to be "single use" that is, once tightend to the correct torque they stretch and should not be re-used, only replaced with brand new bolts. Dave T |
