Front disc

While greasing the front caliper (again) I noticed the disc was loose, ie, I could move it a tad back and front. The torx screw is tight, but I can still move the disc. Can't be right can it?

have you got the correct torx in there. there are differing sizes for vehicles. the rover ones should fill the countersink hole. i had a problem finding some when i did a brake service.trikey had to sort me. i would prefer mine tight and correct , even if the wheel bolts sandwich the discs. .... ;)

Drop me a PM if you need some torx bolts Ronnie.

It doesn't matter, the screw is only there to hold the disc in place on the assembly line. The brake disc is held firmly in place by the wheel nuts.

Could be a worn bearing Ronnie, and you shouldn't need to grease the front caliper, so maybe time for an overhaul or a new one. :}

Just a thought Ronnie, if the play is radial and the other front wheel is on the ground then you will get a bit of play from the differential and, if you have a manual gearbox the DMF. All quite normal.

A few years ago I looked at if it was possible to measure the radial play in the DMF by checking how far the wheel moved when jacked up but nothing came of it. :}

I think you're right Mike, this is the only original caliper left so may be time to renew 😁
